My nutritionist put me on the low FODmap diet, but I also have SIBO, Candida, and IBS. A lot of Lymies also have candida, so you're right to stay off sugar. You might also want to go off wheat - wheat is so terrible for you anyway. And by the way, I've been on a VERY STRICT diet for months and it's had little effect. I only know I don't feel worse. I'm hoping the tide changes soon. I figure it must take a long time to get the benefits.
