New symptom while taking mino

After taking mino a week 100mg twice/day I had a setback and had to stop a couple days. I then restarted mino at 100/day and been there a couple weeks. I should have switched back to 100 twice/ day but was kind of worried ive id have another setback(extreme lethargy, pain, etc etc), so ive stayed at 100mg. Was contemplating adding rifampin but again, scared. Ive actually been more productive on 100mg/day and have been to work 7 days/week for 3 weeks. This week will be my 4th if I can make it every day.

New symptom popped up though the last 4 days, and im almost positive I know what it is, but im not sure why mino is bringing it out on only 100mg/day. Calf pain. Sometimes solid for hours, others times its like pin pricks that are on and off for hours. A little neck pain too, but ive had that ever since I got sick in 2014.

Its bart rearing up isnt it? If so, should I up mino to 100 twice/day, or just add the rifampin? Thanks.

Oh, and sorry I havent been participating much lately. Work is hectic, and im actually able to do it! My boss is happy, and my bank account is building back up!

Neuro Lyme can produce calf pain as you describe as well, so it may be a herx rather than Bartonella.

I did want to congratulate you for being able to get back to work this month though! I'm sure that felt good in it's own way!! Congratulations!

I think it's safe to say that we are really happy that you have been able to get back to work and fully understand that means you aren't going to be here as much - and I'm happy for you!

I don't know enough about abx to be of enough help here, so I'll leave the recommendations to others who understand them better.

Thanks Trav, means a lot. My life seems a bit of a roller coaster but seeing light at the end of the tunnel. PMing Girlie and gettimg great advice ive finally more hope than all the doctors ive ever seen.

What worries me is being at such a low dose of mino, and what rifampin might do to me. I dont want to do anything to hurt myself further.

Ya know though, in the last 3 weeks ive had old dreams pop back up. Not sleep dreams. Day dreams of the future. Makkng it up to the monluntains more often, like I did before I got sick. Spending more time with my dad in nature, our 1st loves. Buy a house.Ya know, truly living again instead of merely existing. Maybe this wont work. But Ceftin Biaxin and Bactrim never made me feel this good. Herbs neither(though a lot better than the previous mentioned abx). I have hope again Trav!!!

Yep, it's amazing when you get around those that have experience (read that as trials and failures usually!) with treating these infections and the insights they can provide! And Girlie is a most wonderful person to be here to help and to share!!

Trader, I would try to do the 200 mg of Mino (100 mg twice daily) before adding in the Rifampin.

You're doing exactly what my LLND instructed me to do. He was never cautious in the whole year prior with the abx...but when he prescribed the mino and Rifampin he was...so he must have known it would be tough.

He had me do 100 mg of mino for awhile ( I can't remember - if it was a week or two) then 100 mg twice daily and stay on Mino for several weeks (I think a month) before adding in Rifampin 300 mg ONCE daily for a few weeks...then 300 mg twice daily.

SO - I would add the second dose of mino in. And stay at that for a four weeks before adding in Rifampin - at 300 mg once daily before going to 300 mg twice daily.

The other option is going from 300 mg once daily to 600 mg once daily. (that's what he recently switched me to)

Awesome that you're having some good improvements!
