Hi. I'm currently using the Beyond balance herbs TOX-EASE GL, MC-BB-2, and BC-BFM-P to treat my 10 yr old daughter for lyme. I've been deep diving into Buhner's book and am considering adding in his core protocol as well. The first herb I'd like to start with is Japanese Knotweed. My question is should the tincture be Alcohol free or contain alcohol? I see two different version sold on Amazon. I know there are tablets as well but I'd like to start with the smallest dose possible, so I thought the tincture would be best.

Tinctures are great for tittering doses because you can count drops. I wouldn't really be concerned about
the alcohol, I am highly sensitive to it and can't drink anymore, and I get no reaction out of my tinctures.
I don't think they are any worse than flavor extracts, BUT, you can get tinctures that are glycerine based, or part alcohol and part glycerine.

I too also wouldn't be concerned about
alcohol, or non-alcohol based. Another option would be to buy it powdered and make a tea out of it.

The amount of the alcohol in the tinctures is minute...so as the others have said...not really something to be worried about

Well, I'm a grandma and if I had a grandchild that had lyme, and I was given the choice, I would go alcohol free. Why not? It is available and the same price. And the same herb.
I also like how you have more control over the dosage with a tincture.
Are you getting the one from Hawaii Pharm - Hu Zhang?

Thanks for all the replies. I decided to go with the Hawaii Pharm alcohol free Hu Zhang. It has a higher extraction ratio (1:3) than Montana Farm (1:5) so I'm hoping that means less drops (and less icky taste) for my daughter to swallow? Based on a prior review of Hawaii Pharm on this board, it seemed like a trust worthy company to order from.

With relation to herb strength, refer to the below. As this points out, it's nearly impossible to tell an herbs strength based on ratios.

"The best advice we can offer is to find a brand you like and stick with it." Awesome article Krimpet!!
Hopeformychild, I love Hawaii Pharm. They have been an excellent company for me for almost 2 years. Absolutely no trouble with them whatsoever. Their tinctures work great for hubby and I both.
You just have to look up the Chinese name on some of the herbs so you can order them.
