Hi There - I've been on doxy for about 3.5 months, and seeing decent progress, but my doctor wants to switch me to ceftin and biaxin. She's given me specific instructions on how to start the biaxin (slow and steady), but I'm wondering when I should stop the doxy, and then how much time I should give before I add the biaxin and ceftin. Should I stay on doxy while I start the other antibiotics and then stop the doxy? How many days should I wait between adding the biaxin and then adding the ceftin?

Any transitioning experiences would be helpful.

Hi Boston, you're pretty new here and I'm not familiar with your 'case'. If she didn't suggest when to stop or if to stop the doxy, I would call her and find out from her, she knows your situation better than we do.

In my case, I took a 2 week break between doxy which I had also been on for 3 months, and the next one which was zith....but for me it was because it was such a relief to be done with the doxy that I thought was going to kill me (Herxes that I didn't know how to manage), I needed the short break. And I wasn't under the care of a knowledgeable Dr. He was going by an LLMD protocol sheet.

You don't need to take a break...unless you're wanting to.

All three abx don't have interactions that would require you to have one be completely out of your system.

If you're starting biaxin slow and steady...I would get that one into your system first...and then add the Ceftin.

Are you taking a week or two to get the biaxin up to full dose?

I feel like taking a break could result in losing ground, so I'd rather just keep the antibiotics coming.

My doctor instructed me to take 10 days to get up to 500mg of biaxin per day. I'm very nervous about the potential herx...sounds like a strong med.

I like the approach of seeing how the biaxin feels before I add something else!

I did Ceftin and Biaxin and felt absolutely nothing! I can't remember the dosages. My LLMD had me take one for 3 days and then add in the other. The 3 days was to see if I had any problems or allergies with the meds.

Eventually after a month I was sick to my stomach from the meds. But those 2 drugs did absolutely nothing in regards to my symptoms.

but I just wanted you to have a feeling that it might go super well!!!

This is untrue and a dangerous thought to be mulling. If you've been sick for longer than a few months these buggers are well entrenched and you have to think of a long term plan aka marathon and not a sprint approach. I learned the hard way not to try and plow through all the pain and suffering from herxes and to take it slow and steady.

Boston,

I'm also doing Bactrim and Ceftin, but I pulse two weeks on and two weeks off. Maybe we both see the same LLNP, is she from RI?
