Hello. about 3 weeks ago I got gingivostomatitis and the doctor put me on an antibiotic that I took for 2 days and then became short of breath. So I stopped taking it but was getting chills and my fingers were feeling numb so the doctor ran a bunch of blood tests.
My test for Lyme AB, W/reflex came back at 9.7. It has to be >0.90 to be positive.

Then we did the Western Blot (we did both the IgG and IgM) and ONLY iGg Band p41 kda came back positive. Everything else was negative.

I have had random join pain my whole life and I get sick with a cold maybe 2 times a year and I would not say my immune is the strongest, but besides that I have always felt fine. So I am not sure if I qualify for Lyme Disease long term symptoms.

I now have cold like symptoms (stuffy nose, tired, muscle aches) and doctor wants me to take doxy antibiotic for 1 month and then re-test Lyme.

What do you guys think? What could cause such as high Lyme AB, W/reflex and only 1 positive Lyme band?

I have not noticed being bitten by a tick, it is winter here in NJ, so I was very surprised that I might have Lyme. What symptoms qualify someone as having Lyme Disease?

The tests are sadly deficient, for one. Many do not notice being bitten by a tick, and often if you're in good health symptoms may not even show up for months. Also other insects that live on blood are carriers of Lyme such as flies, fleas, bedbugs..and it can be transferred sexually, but much of the scientific community aren't admitting that yet.

Welcome ruff44. Typical result. Look for only one thing, find part of it, go look in the wrong place for something else different. Lyme and coinfections work hard at avoiding detection. You have a positive result for a flagellae after testing strongly for borrelia. If you take the Doxy, make sure you take another abx, at least zithro (watch Dr. Horowitz' videos on youtube) then prepare for a herx. Likely you also have babesia, plus a collection of other bugs. Just doing doxy is insufficient. That's like getting in the shower and only washing the parts of you that you can see. I gave my dr a copy of "healing Lyme" edition 2 then went to a llmd. I recommend that practice. For yourself, get "Healing Lyme" and "Lyme Coinfections" both by Stephen Buhner. One of the best investments you can make. It's a jungle. Be prepared.

HI. Thanks for the response. Here is where my confusion sets in.
To test for Lyme, they use a 2 step process. The first step uses a testing procedure called “EIA” (enzyme immunoassay) or Lyme titer . This is the test Lyme AB, W/reflex that showed a 9.7 for me. However it says on the blood work results that this test can show a false positive.

So they follow up with the Western Blot, which only shows iGg Band p41 for me. So according to the CDC, this does not show a positive Lyme Disease diagnosis.

Now, say that I just have a cold and not Lyme. How would I know that? The symptoms are all the same. So I am not sure how does someone know they have Lyme?

You get regular cold or flu symptoms (I don't have a fever) and the tests do not show a positive in a lot of cases.

I understand that it is best to see an LLMD, but reading online it seems like I can have mono, LUPUS, any number of immune issues or just a plain cold after having gingivostomatitis and my body is weakened.

I am really confused on what indicates that someone has Lyme disease, especially if they have not had a tick bite that they found and no rash.
