Burping up pill dust?

Add this to the list of new, exciting Lyme problems. The last couple of days, after I take my supplements, I burp and pill dust comes out. Yesterday, it was an actual poof of dust!! I figure, the pills are dissolving either in my stomach or on their way, but how do I fix it? Anyone get this? What do you do for it? It's mostly annoying, if anything. I do drink plenty of water with my pills.

You need to make sure that you drink an entire glass of water or more with your pills. drink enough to get the pills down and then fill the glass up to at least half way and drink the rest of that. If you are burping up the contents of the pills they have not made it into your stomach and are dissolving in your esophagus. This is bad because the contents of pills may be harmful when not dissolved in the stomach and they will not have their desired effect when not dissolved properly.

Burping up Charcoal cap dust looked like old diesel exhaust coming out LOL!!

MAF249's advice is right on!

You don't know what damage those pill contents can do to the esophagus also.

Yup I've had this happen! Youd think you're drinking enough. But I'll bet the the gel caps stick going down. It's a crazy thing isn't it?!!

LOL! I've burped up all kinds of herb dust after taking them in capsules! The worst is valerian in my estimation though! EW!!! It's like eating a dirty sock and burping that back up! smhair

Oddly enough, while I do burp up pill dust - I don't burp up any of my herbs that I take without it being encapsulated! Seems counter intuitive, but it really hasn't happened! I'm just not willing to take the valerian without it being in a capsule! Ew!

I sometimes have to eat a few bites of food to get them to stay down.

I find that it is best to "lube" up the esophagus before the pill.

Do some water, the pill and followed by more water.

I always drink some water before I put pills in my mouth, but I have read that you can coat them with coconut or olive oil too - haven't tried that yet, as I don't do well putting just oil on my stomach. I do find a few bites of food after taking my pills helpful though on those days where I just know that I will be burping them up again.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. You know, I do drink water before, during and after. I also take a small tsp of coconut oil - there are certain pills which just don't go down and the oil helps, but last few times I've had pill dust - almost an hour later too. So weird.

The other thing that might be happening is that you may have too low a level of stomach acid. Here's a link to an "at home" stomach acid test, if you want to check into this: hansacenter.com/simple-at-home-test-for-low-stomach-acid/

I have low stomach acid myself, and have to take digestive enzymes and other things. It's made a big difference for me too!

I have had this happen to me for years. always with capsules containing the powered medicine. the latest was a few minutes ago when my Rifampin decided to not dissolve where it should have. There was a cloud of dust and of course the bad taste. accompanied by my sputum turning orange even after several glasses of water. I always drink plenty of water but it doesn't seem to make a difference. It was just as bad when I was taking Tyler another red pill. I have several stomach issues and I take medicine for those as well. I just try and be very careful when I take my meds.

This is an old post from 2017 retrieved here however yes it is odd and Capsule burp dust happens!

The one that did it to me the most was charcoal capsules .

I burped up some charcoal dust several times and it looked like forest fire smoke blowing out of my mouth!

Oh my goodness!!! This post gave me a good laugh. I don’t remember seeing this before. I never even heard of that before. The only pills I remember burping or having trouble digesting were gel caps - d-limonene, NeuroProtec, and oil of oregano. I assumed I was sensitive to something in the gel that made me burp or reflux from it. No dust in those, but the d-limonene and oregano would burn my throat coming up like that.

P.S. - I just saw this post has had over 19 THOUSAND views. Holy crap!!! I bet people all over the internet burping up pill dust found this post and read it. Must be a very common thing.
