Question about probiotic and activated charcoal

I just started a new probiotic. It has 30 billion cfus and 18 strains. It has been causing me so much GI distress, ie gas and bloating. I burped yesterday and I swear it came from my ankles lol I'm only taking one pill, not even the full dose. Is this a good sign that it's working?

Last night, I took Activated Charcoal before bed to help with the gas. I'm not sure if I should have but it did help. Wondering if the AC counteracts the effect of the probiotic, or if it just helps ease the GI distress.

I would say that it was a good choice to take the activated charcoal. The probiotics may be killing off yeast, causing the gas. Just be sure to wait at least 2 hours after the probiotics to take the AC and watch your symptoms.

Thanks Trav. I did take it a few hours after the probiotic. I also skipped my night dose of Biaxin, just to give my stomach a break.

As much as I KNOW AC works, I'm still not entirely sure HOW it works lol

It binds to things - literally to most everything - and ushers it out of the body before the body can absorb it - or in some cases, reabsorb it - usually out through the GI tract. This is why we have to be careful when we take it. If you want your body to absorb and utilize something, you have to take/eat it 2 hours before you take the AC, otherwise the AC will bind to those things and remove them from the body before the body can utilize it.

Watch your symptoms. Chances are things will settle back down soon enough, but if they don't, be sure to contact your doctor.

activated charcoal is a good choice, but alkaseltzer gold would be better. can you get your hands on it? sometimes it is hard to find, but if you live near an independent pharmacy, they can order it for you if they dont usually stock it.

I took alkaseltzer gold twice a day regularly during my entire lyme treatment. Its a wonderful detox agent and helps keep you body in an alkaline state. It also helps gas issues tremendously!!

Alkaseltzer gold is a good detox - but it doesn't take the place of a binder like Activated charcoal.

You should take a binder to flush out the toxins.

It also could be that the dosage is too high (sometimes you have to acclimate to it) or it has a strain or strains that don't agree with you. Everyone isn't able to take all strains.

yes, AC is an excellent binder, but Alkaseltzer Gold treats the specific symptom of excess gas and stomach pains, which is why I highly recommend it. No reason why you can't take both! Just not at the same time, that's all.
