Alinia antiparasitical for Lyme co-infections???

I was advised to consider using this product that is normally prescribed for children diagnosed with cryptosporidium and/or Giardia. My LLND, says there's recent studies revealing positive results in Lyme peeps who have parasites in their gut.

Has ANYONE by chance, had any success using Alinia for Lyme co-infections such as babs?

I've heard of it for Babesia - some forum members have taken it.

It's on LLMD MR list (in his treatlyme online book) for Babs.

I don't think its enough for Babs. You will need something else IMO.

i used it for Babesia it definitely induced a herx. i did 3 rounds each round was for 4 consecutive days a week. by the 3rd round i didn't feel anything so i believe it knocks back the babesia (and probably other parasites) but like girlie said don't think its enough to eradicate it.

My Doc uses it for Bart and says it also may hit Babs. I've had great success using it. It has to be paired with other drugs to be effective.

my llmd loves it ... she thinks it opens cells and gets cystic lyme ,,studies say it even hits viruses ..its kinda newer and not much has been done on it , it did help with giardia but titrate up slow ...it killed a lot quik and emo herx was ruff,,, like str8jacket ruff!!!

I know LLMD MR has had it as one of his protocols for at least 3 years now. (For Babesia)

hmmm - wonder if I should order some...hits both bart and babs...

Im on Alinia now for the end of cycle #2 as well as Tini at the same time (half hour apart). I cant say yea or nea on this, just that I now tolerate both well.

Bart seems to continue to do its thing regardless. I added Doxy 200mg bid in a desperation move to slow it, and it has helped more than the others, but I am just buying time until I can get Rifampin.

Beginning Albendazole in one or 2 days.

I'm not blue, but Alinia is indeed a relatively new drug.

Alinia is VERY expensive if I remember and your insurance company if they cover it won't do it for long.

ChickenArise keep us posted on how you do. I've only heard Alinia being used as an anti-parasitical to hit Babesia when the first line stuff (mepron, coartem) isn't effective enough.

Rikky you can get a month's supply (60 pills) for $300 from Foundation Care phone-877-291-1122 Fax-877-291-1155 www.FoundCare.com I know $300 isn't cheap but it's much better than what many have paid and they will refill. Once my new insurance denied my LLND called here. No shipping charges added.

Alinia has been a game changer for me as well as my kids. It is the first medication that finally got rid of my fever from Babesia. We pay $10 a month through a special program through the company that makes Alinia. They have been trying to make is more affordable/accessible.

So I am a HUGE fan of Alinia. My only advice is to go very very slow when increasing your dose. Otherwise, be prepared for major GI issues.

FWIW, my 3 month supply of Alinia from a compounding pharmacy was about $550 CAD. Not sure if it was Alinia or generic (if there is one).

I was on alinia for a while, def induced a herx but it got easier to tolerate after a while. Supposed to also have some good antiviral activity as well. In regards to expense there are workarounds and other avenues as bluelyme mentioned. One has to feel comfortable pursuing such avenues though!

From what I've read it is a very solid drug, with a pretty limited side effect profile.
