Epstein Barr Virus?

what are you doing to treat your EBV? I have had it for years no one (no doctor) has tried to treat it, they brushed it off as no big deal cuz everyone's got it at some point. I feel crappy all the time.
How often do you take vitamin C, glutathione, and monolaurin.? Weekly? daily? whats' the dosage?

It's been known for a while now that viruses - particularly EBV and other herpes virsues, CMV and (oops, I'm not awake enough to remember the name of the other one!!) play a large part for most of us in our illness.

Many that use pharma drugs use Valtrex or Acyclovir, those that wish to stick with natural treatments usually use Lysine to deal with the Herpes viruses, including EBV.

Personally, I use Lysine. It's inexpensive and readily available. The goal is much like with Lyme - to get the levels of the bacteria/virus low enough for the body to be able to keep it under control.

To answer Lymehater's questions, in case you are interested, I take a pure lysine (capsulize it myself) and I use 2,000 mgs 3 times a day and it keeps my EBV and herpes viruses down to a level that they don't usually interfere with my life much, unless I have a lot of stress.

Oh, and the number of people that have it really is between 95 - 98% of the American population. That's been known for many years now. EBV has had pretty good research done on it, very much unlike Lyme and company. The virus was even carried into space on one of the missions so they could see how it would respond up there!

I've have increased my fight again the viruses too since last fall.

My labs from last week were:

EBV VGA (IGG) high at 4.21 (> 1.10 is pos)
EBV EBNA (IGG) high at 5.00 (>1.10 is pos).
One other EBV test was neg.

HHV-6 IGG elevated at 1:40 (< 1.20 OK).

All Coxsackie test were back into normal ranges.

It was tough to do a good comparison to last Fall's tests that were done by another Lab.

If EBV had looked good I was ready to stop Takuna and Famvir. Takuna is pricey at $28.00 per oz. I also take L-Lysine capsules per Travelers frequent recommendations.

These viruses are most likely what's holding me back as well.

Tickbite... you know what? I had ebv before when I was 24 and I was sick for like 6 months, I went to so many doctors they couldn't figure it out, then it just went away all on it's own. But this second time I had mostly the same symptoms but it was like at least 5 times more intense.

Anyways I realized people describing their experience with Epstein Barr virus have experienced exactly what I have had.

I think this and mercury toxicity. Probably an infection just let this thing loose. And I think this virus gets inside bacteria and as we kill the bacteria the virus is released too.

Ya but here is the thing Traveler.

This virus gets into the nerves and all over when it breaks out causing quick and fast symptoms, lots of burning! You see I got this confused with bartonella as bartonella causes burning.

Anyways to focus on this will be a good idea for me now.

I was reading he book "healing medium", it talks about this Epstein Barr virus and everything I have experienced is practically exactly This virus. Even the symptom in the knees! Anyways in the book it says it can be cured though if you do a really comprehensive treatment for it. Many of us are chronically sick.

This time I will try focused viral treatment with herbs and monolaurin and a health diet. However I will turn to prescriptive medications if necessary.

Do be sure to do your own research into this - EBV is just like Lyme, you are not going to "cure it" as in get rid of it, you can only bring it under control, then keep the immune system healthy enough to keep it under control. EBV actually stops cell apoptosis (a programmed cell death), so the virus can 'live on' inside of our cells. While we can take things to help lower the amount of the virus we have in us, we can't completely rid our body of it.

I love the healing power of mushrooms..... too bad they have a weird texture and taste so earthy. Not exactly my cup of tea, but I do them often, hiding them as best I can in a lot of foods I make.

I’m writing from India. My lyme tests have come back negative but my Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) test is positive – both IgG and IgM. I was told resveratrol is very helpful in preventing replication of the virus – would Japanese knotweed give the same benefits for EBV as resveratrol? There are a number of herbs that are specific for EBV – but I do want to note that nearly everyone is positive for EBV. For most people it is something that does not cause problems. However, if you are experiencing chronic fatigue like symptoms, it can be the cause. The antiviral herbs specific for EBV that are also widely systemic in the body are: lomatium, andrographis, reishi, licorice, isatis, Japanese knotweed, Chinese skullcap root, and fresh ginger root. The organism also damages mitochondria and their function which is what leads to such low energy levels. The herbs specific for protecting mitochondria and their function are: cordyceps, motherwort, rhodiola, Chinese skullcap root, kudzu.

I would start with:
• Herbal tincture combination of: Chinese skullcap, licorice, isatis, and lomatium. Equal parts of each tincture mixed together, ¼ tsp 3x daily. AND
• Tincture combination of: rhodiola, reishi, kudzu. Same dosage AND
• Cordyceps 2000 mg 3x daily or tincture: ¼ tsp 3x daily (you can purchase from sagewomanherbs.com)

And do this for 60 days and see if it helps.

This is a pretty good article on EBV, symptoms and treatments. The one real danger with EBV is the spleen can become inflamed and rupture for a few.

Traveller, in the book the "healing medium" it does say the virus can be destroyed and cleared from the body. I did see in other scientific articles it stays with people just like all the other herpes viruses. I like to believe in cures and not remissions, if remission feels like cure then good enough for me I'll take it as a cure, if it relapses then it was never completely cured so I will have to treat it again anyways.

I don't really buy the 95% of adult population has it though, I think the true number is less and more like two thirds.

Girlie - heavy metal treatment seems to help but it is on going and just one piece to the detox. I haven't discussed ebv with the LLMD or LLND. Just my family Doctor, he said he can check for "titers".

And ebv CAN have the same symptoms of Lyme and co, including muscle spasms, tingling, numbness, burning, anxiety, tinnitus, muscle pain, and... my surprise was joint pain including knee aches that I had that others with it have had. It can infect nerves and cause nerve inflammation. Fatigue also happens.

I had this before when I was 24, I was sick for 6 months with the above symptoms but then it just went away on it's own with no treatment. But I do remember I had a few days where I was tired and some days I would wake up with a sore throats and wonder what that was from. Like it was pretty bad, I think with co-infections the immune system gets hit down and this comes back out. It is pretty bad virus actually and not really thought of too much in my treatment at least.
As for progress... I am still literally the same level, call it 90 or 95 who knows, right now my legs are burning a bit. Also it can cause red rashes as well.

Thanks traveler, the reason I don't believe it to be that high is because I personally didn't get it until age 24, and I don't know anyone else well at my work at least who is chronically sick. They are all just married and healthy. There is no possible way a virus can be that intense and have symptoms that strong and yet just brushed off as no big deal, oh well 98% of the population has it no big deal ! Lol. It makes it seem like we gotta focus on other things.
