Best tick repellent?

What is the best tick repellent to use? I know chemicals are bad so I want something I can put on my clothes and skin. Please let me know what brand is best or provide a link. Thank you!

I use essential oils - I found this online a few years ago:

She uses Rose Geranium - but there are other recipes. I couldn't find the Rose Geranium locally, but I am going to order it online this year.

So, it combines the EO, plus witch hazel and water.

I don't know how effective it is because I don't see ticks very often where I am.

At our home we use the nasty bug killing sprays on us with DEET. Sorry, but we don't want West Nike, Zika or Lyme! And we aren't going to stay inside.

I am ordering this skin protector today. You put it on and then put on the nasty bug spray. This keeps your skin from absorbing the nasty bug spray.

I have a set of clothes treated with permethrin, and then use deet spray on my boots. I use penny royal tincture around my face and ears (gnats are horrible!).

I don't think there's a proven one.

....if I lived in an area where there were ticks all over the place...when I walked outside...not sure I would trust an EO spray.
I don't have that issue...where I am.

I use a homemade mosquito / tick repellant with essential oils. I can't say for sure that it works, but I've been using it for a few years and haven't found a tick on any of us when we use it, even when my kids have come in from playing in fields of tall grass (which scares the crap out of me every single time). We do thorough tick checks when we come in from my son's baseball games, outings to the park, etc. We use it liberally and spray both the skin and clothing. We also reapply regularly.

Mine has water, alcohol or witch hazel, plus these oils:

rose geranium
palo santo
Thieves *
Purification *
peppermint
lemon eucalyptus

The * essential oils are blends proprietary to Young Living. I also read something on http://www.greenmedinfo.com/blog/defeating-lyme-disease-essential-oils about using garlic, vetiver, & oregano essential oils for tick repellant, so I might modify my recipe a bit to incorporate those.

I have tried every "natural" bug spray in my health food store. I have Young Living Essential Oils and have tried them. At a certain point they all wear off and you get bit.

I don't want anything biting me!!! Not a mosquito, flea or gnat and least of all a tick. I will try and protect my skin but I will kill the biters!

I can't wear permethrin on my skin when I am by the lake or the pool this summer. And I refuse to cover up in hot clothing. I want to wear my bathing suit.

I ordered some of Buhner's tick repellent formula from the link below. I can't comment on efficacy because we have only had it a few weeks. It's very pricey, but I wanted something with fewer chemicals for my kids.

$16.95 for the small bottle isn't too pricey....and if it works - without toxic chemicals...then it's worth it IMO.
