Hi Patty-
I'm not really sure what is going on. There are so many different yeast and fungal strains but what we're really dealing with is dysbiosis - whether it's bacteria, yeast, parasites, etc. Healthy immune systems can handle the imbalance. Just like there are so many contributing factors for why pathogens can cause problems for some people, sometimes, and not in other circumstances.
For several reasons, my GI is sensitive. Probiotics and fermented foods, which really help some people, bring on typical yeasty sx (belly gets tight, uncomfortable, distended, gassy, nausea, mood changes..) I go off them, GI returns to normal.
Through DNA mutation investigation, I learned that I have a genetic predisposition to imbalanced gut flora and lack of some good bacteria and probiotics can never really replace everything. I'm hoping to do a fecal transplant when I'm done w/ tx.
I've also had yeast problems for years and years - mostly really small issues but they were there as a child. And everything got much worse when I started getting run down w/ Lyme & co, high viral load, etc. and then got much better when I realized what it was and how to address it.
So - I think my yeast issues were pretty fundamental - not like the problems that have developed for some people only since starting on abx.
