As someone who has followed diets like Paleo (Standard and AIP), Low-Carb, and Higher Fat, I have come to feel there's probably no reason to avoid foods to which one is not allergic or sensitive.
In order to determine food allergies/sensitivities, an elimination diet is likely the best choice.
Kind of my gut instinct on this as well. I remember years ago when I was healthy I was experimenting with diets to improve athletic performance and what I came to find was that getting in enough calories was more important than what I ate. I never ate copious amounts of fast food or sweets but did indulge once an a while.
