I get a higher HR off and on and think mine is Bart related. Perhaps autonomic nervous system? When I lay down at night, it will sometimes be high, and I feel like I can't relax, then it will just calm down after awhile. I think my HR has been a bit higher since starting this round of Lyme/bart protocol.
Definitely the autonomic nervous system is the problem. Bart and Babesia can really cause it to go haywire. I have both and it has caused restlessness, anxiety, just can't calm down feeling, panic attacks, racing heart rate, sweating, and flush/fever feeling. I believe I had Lyme, Bart, and Erlichia for at least the last 10 years. However my heart rate issues and really bad central nervous system issues didn't start until about
2 years ago. I was trimming some bushes in my yard when I got bit by a bunch of fleas a few days after that the symptoms started. I believe that's when I caught Bart which can be transmitted by flea bites. I believe the Bart and Babesia together have been my problem with terrible anxiety and all the other issues - I believe the two are the cause of my off the wall cortisol levels which leads to terrible anxiety and panic attacks. As I continue to hit Bart and Babesia with the Buhner protocol the symptoms are slowly getting better and when I get them bad they don't last anywhere near as long as they did. 2 years ago when I went into a full blown panic attack, I was restless and had terrible anxiety for 2 days straight and couldn't sleep for 48 hours. Now I could have a bad attack during the day and I'll at least get 3 to 5 hours of sleep, and it's now rare when that happens.
I have discovered through research and testing out different methods on myself I can usually greatly lessen these symptoms if I can activate my vagus nerve to calm down my system. The vagus never when activated causes your Parasympathetic System to start working to calm yourself. When I try one of these methods when the central nervous system is going haywire, the sign that I have activated my vagus nerve is I start to belch - sometimes multiple times. When this happens I know my system is calming down. Here are the ways I have found work for me:
1) 4-7-8 deep breathing, works wonders for activating the vagus nerve to calm down the nervous system and lower your heart rate. Especially when you wake up with a panic attack, worry, or restlessness. The 4-7-8 deep breathing will put me right back to sleep. 4-7-8 deep breathing lowers cortisol levels and calms down the nervous system. Here's a demo on 4-7-8 breathing:

2) Gargle with water, this works wonders for activating the vagus nerve and calming down
