Well, I'm not over 55 quite yet - I'll be 54 soon though - does that count? LOL!
I have been infected for most of my life, with my infections going back to the age of 7 at least and didn't get diagnosed until I was 44, didn't get effective treatment for me until I was 47. I saw a LLMD first and tried pharma abx treatments, but after a year, and I was a lot worse, I turned to detoxing and herbal treatments and that's what finally allowed me to heal. I was healed for a couple of years before getting reinfected, and so I'm back in the fight.
Which avenue to choose for treatments is completely up to you. Your age will have very little to do with it, it's a lot more on what your body can utilize best. My body doesn't work well with pharma drugs and never has, so it made sense when I turned to herbs that it worked better for me.
If you wish to use herbs only, I would encourage you to! You can use an Functional Medicine doctor or an experienced herbalist.
Maybe you can explain the digestive issues you are dealing with that have you concerned about your treatments? That way we will understand and can give you suggestions that will take that into consideration.
