Pulsing doxy?

Is it okay to pulse doxy? If so, what kind of schedule could you do with pulsing?

Wondering partly as I think it may help liver/kidneys to take breaks while using doxy for 1-2+ months.

I wouldn't worry about pulsing Doxy if you're planning using only 1 or 2 months unless you have a serious intolerance level. What other ABX are you taking? A mono-abx protocol is not very successful for chronic cases.

I've been pulsing various combos for the past year, but I've been treating for over 7 years. I pulse 2 week on and 2 weeks off. I had the choice between that or every other month.

I'm currently just taking doxy and biofibrin supplement which a previously llmd said could help break up biofilms.

Originally my protocol included flagyl and rifmapin. The flagyl gave me a bad reaction so that's out and I've heard rifmapin can be pretty harsh so I may opt for something natural instead of that. I do also have fluconazole but I know it can be hard on liver/kidneys so I'm not taking that regularly either. I guess I need to follow up with my llms asap.

rifampin is an awesome drug for killing all forms of lyme and bartonella. i would stay on it along with another abx since you need combos to hit the bugs from multiple angles and prevent resistance.

diflucan is for every once in a while to clear systemic candida. shouldn't have to worry about it all that much since you should be taking it sparingly.

I'm concerned about the side effect of heart rate increase from rifmapin I've heard some people can get. Someone told me their resting heart rate went up a lot when on rife. I also heard that it could have other brutal side effects too but maybe it's easier on different people.

Is it pointless to be taking doxy like I am now though? If it is I could save it for later.

I would agree on the not pulsing the Doxy. What doses are you currently taking?

Well, you definitely will need something that will kill the bacteria. Did you have alternatives that you can use for the Doxy? Have you talked to your doctor about it yet? In order to heal, you will have to use those 'high powered' abx, or other means to kill the bacteria. These are not easy bacteria to kill, so the 'high powered' abx are the ones that must be used. Unless you chose to go with a different type of protocol - like herbs, BVT or others.

Doxy alone tends to only push Bb into cyst form. If you couldn't handle Flagyl maybe Tindamax will be more tolerable. You should not worry about all the side effects you read about. They occur in only a small percentage of people. Yes you need to be aware of them, but it's best to try it and see for yourself. This is a b**ch of a disease to treat and some of these side effects should not out way aggressive treatment.

tickbite has it right. When I took Rifampin and Doxy my heart went crazy but it wasn't because it was a side effect of the drug it was the darn bugs dying off! I've done Rifampin and Rifabutin for over 9 months in total duration and no issues. Doxy no issues either. I've been doing Bactrim for close to a year and you can read horror stories of what its done to people but for me no problems.

Everyone is different only way to tell if you have a side effect is to try the drug for yourself.

So I looked it up and yes fast heartbeat is listed for Rifampin with a gazillion others.


I looked up Doxy and fast heartbeat is listed as well.


These meds usually have a long list of possible side effects.

I hear that. Originally he prescribed tinidazole but my insurance didn't take it. I know I could order overseas if needed.

In out next appointment I think we'll discuss all this.

Also I hear on the side effects. I guess I may as well give it a shot. I think my llmd said I could start half a dose so I could see how I react to it.

I actually still have tinidazole left over I got a while ago from overseas called Tiniba. It tends to hurt my kidneys though but maybe I'll try it again as a flagyl replacement and see if I can handle it or not.

Include targeted detoxing for the kidneys before you start the Tini. That might help - and remember to start on a low dose!
