Question about Mepron and blood/brain barrier penetration

I have read it doesn't cross b/b barrier ... if that is true, then why do I have 'head' symptoms when I'm taking it?

I get a flare of pressure in my head behind my eyes when I'm on it.

I also take minocycline with it...but mino on it's own - this symptom isn't as bad.

Sorry... I have no good info for you other than the "gut-brain connection" that I'm always talking about - those vessels connecting the two could be a pathway for toxins...

but that's all I got. I felt bad that you didn't get a response yet so sharing. ;)

Girlie, I am not taking minocycline but I am taking malarone and my head is very effected. I have constant head pressure and headache. I guess it could be lyme because I am taking zith and cat's claw but I was taking them before malarone. The pressure started with malarone.

Wish I had the answer. Maybe somebody else does.

Okay - I just thought of why - maybe...

Babesia causes head issues...so if the Babesia is being treated...the die-off is increasing my head issues.


.....BUT - if Babesia is in the head...how is it dying off when the meds used to treat doesn't go there?

Girlie, I've been on malarone for 4 months exactly. I had to build up to 2 pills twice a day and I've only been on that amount for a month. I am really struggling.

I've been on for 3 months now...Mepron 1 tsp twice daily.
my schedule - each cycle:

Week 1 - M/W/F

Week 2 - M/T/W/Th/F

Week 3 - off all meds




I have only made it through Week 2 once (the last set) without having to skip some doses.
Next week is Week 2 again...not sure how it will go.

I get a ramp up in some of the symptoms I had attributed to bart (nerve pain and foot pain)

Plus lots of sweating and shivering..and of course the head pressure behind my eyes. It sometimes seems like my eyes have a smokey veil in front of them.

some docs say that with proto, which antimalarials are used , it responds to tx with hypercoagulation and fibrin this may decrease vascular perfusion when bug is being attacked. are you on enzymes like lumbro or serrapaptase?

Girlie, good luck with your upcoming week 2 schedule. My doctor isn't allowing me to pulse now. Probably because it took so long to work up my dosage. I want us both to turn the corner sooner than later.

I too have head symptoms on Mepron.
I too have heard, anecdotally, that it doesn't penetrate the brain well.

However I haven't seen any actual evidence of this claim.
Where did you hear it?

"Atovaquone is active in mouse models of cerebral toxoplasmosis and is used in humans for this indication, when other drugs fail or cannot be administered due to severe side effects. To our knowledge, no data concerning its entry into human CSF or brain tissue have been published".

I stopped my serrapeptase when I switched to xylitol and lactoferrin for biofilms.

Thanks...I'm just looking at my calendar for next week and anticipating cancelling some plans I had previously made.

i hope we get some improvement, soon too.

I've had some head pressure with bactrim. Sometimes more often when standing up so I thought it could be POTS related. Or even a side effect if all these abx I'm taking.

Have you done the heart rate and BP checks for POTS?
