Changing up my abx... advice?

Yesterday I had a visit with my LLMD and since my symptoms (brain fog, insomnia, eye and head pressure, depression, irritability, depersonalizations) have not been improving much after the last month with Zithromax, he is adding Malarone to my abx to take twice a day along with Zithromax once a day. He believes I may have babesia, although I tested negative.

Has anyone had a bad experience with Malarone? I'm concerned of having a bad reaction and I'm starting it tomorrow.

It's been 11 months with Lyme, I'm sick and tired of this disease, and my doctor is still surprised I'm showing symptoms like this. I have gotten better but I'm at 70% right now (compared to in January I felt 10%). I believe I will have IV abx if I have no luck with the Malarone.

How should I expect to feel on malarone?

I would like to know, too. You have seen some good gains so that is great news. Good luck with the malarone. Keep us updated on your experience with it.

I'm not taking malarone...but I am taking Mepron. malarone has some atovaquone in it...but not as much as the Mepron dose is.

Mepron hits me hard. sweating, shivering, head pressure...

I'm surprised your LLMD is surprised you're still having symptoms after 11 months. Has he tried treating babesia and/or bartonella previously?

What other abx's have you taken and for how long?

Malarone gave me diarrhea. Weird cause Mepron I'm fine with must be the proguanil.

Babesia herxing can be the worst one of all I've heard quite a few folks say. Everyone is unique though but typically symptoms will get more severe so keep an eye out for that as it'll be a confirmation that a symptom is from Babesia (anti-malarial med) and not lyme or something else (antibiotic meds).

Sick and tired after 11 months? I'm on 27 :o). There are plenty here who have me beat. I know its not a contest but the symptoms can last far longer than we'd like to imagine or even think about so try to be mentally prepared for a knock down drag out fight. Remember there's only one winner here you or the bugs, who will it be?

My LLMD told me he'd prescribe malarone but I just checked my pill container and it in fact says Mepron

No, this is the first time I'm being treated for babesia. I initially started with doxycycline for 4 months, zithro for 1, now the mix of zithro and malarone. I was misdiagnosed for several months before this

Mepron is a liquid suspension, so if you're taking pills it's probably Malarone.

No problem. They're both the same thing regardless. Mepron is atovaquone and Malarone is atovaquone + proguanil.
