Hi All - After about
9 months of treatment for babesia and lyme, I've been at consistently 95% for about
3 weeks except my mood is terrible. I'm angry, I'm sad, I'm just emotionally volatile. I'm still on antibiotics and herbs, so nothing in terms of my treatment has changed.
During the darkest times of lyme, I definitely had intense bouts of depression and anxiety, but I thought that once I felt good, I would be elated.
There are still things that I have had to give up for lyme (long distance bike riding, a regular yoga practice, highway driving) that I'm scared of bringing back into my life for fear of relapsing.
So where are these feelings coming from? Am I still grieving what I've lost and trying to come to terms with what has been an awful, terrifying experience? I just don't get it.
I'm wondering if anyone has faced these counter-intuitive healing feelings.
Thanks for your support.

I have and I'm so sorry that you have too.
For me, I discovered those feelings were being brought on by too much inflammation - both in my brain and in other areas of my body. Are you taking any anti-inflammatories?
No, those are not "normal" fears of things that will bring a relapse, at least not the regular yoga practice and highway driving.

Hi Traveler - Thanks for your response. I just feel so unthankful for feeling better!
I'm not sure what you been about
anti-inflammatories (which means I'm probably not taking them!) Can you give me an example?

I use herbs, so my anti-inflammatories are herbal as well. I take turmeric, ginger and boswellin for anti-inflammatories.
Also, how's your detoxing going? That will help lower some of the inflammation as well.
And, I'm so sorry! I hope that you can find some help with this soon! I know it's miserable. I hate feeling that way.

Thanks for the anti-inflammatory suggestions.
Since I've been feeling better my detox has dropped off....I'll step that back up....!
thank you!

boston i get the same feelings also when i'm feeling better and its not inflammation. i think we think when we're sick and feel better we're going to be so elated and nothing will bother us and we'll be walking around with a permanent smile on our faces but it doesn't necessarily work that way.
when we feel better we get a chance to focus more on the life we've either lost or has been seriously diminished. that can make us angry, depressed, anxious, etc. there is also the thought always there in the background that these pathogens are going to rear their ugly heads again and take us to that dark place. no one can say for sure this won't happen which brings not the greatest thoughts into our heads.

I agree with Rikky. You grieve the loss of the life you had and especially the physical aspect of it. You know it will take time to get back to where you were. I cherished my health a lot more after lyme.
And, I was nervous about
relapsing again.
Time was the only fix for me. Time to adjust and time to see that I am still well and have not gotten worse.

I would still suggest that people try adding an anti-inflammatory. Inflammation in the brain can cause all sorts of issues - including intrusive thoughts.

Thanks all - it's just helpful to know that others have felt this way.

Being 95% healed made me anxious just like you are. I knew I was getting better, but was so afraid. Hang in there and keep on eating properly and detoxing... There really is a grief process when we heal. Also I had post traumatic stress. Always waiting for the other shoe to drop. The fear of every little twitch in my body. Even when I had no symptoms, I was afraid to stop my meds. I did not want to start all over.
I so understand where you are coming from.
