Tested very high for EBV, relative with my Lyme?

I don't exactly know how well the two go hand-in-hand, I've just heard that having Lyme can really bring about EBV, since as I understand, it just kind of lies dormant within most of us? I was scared seeing my doctor today though, because when she showed me my numbers, and that positive result was <21, and she's like the highest I've seen in all my years doing this was maybe in the 80's, and mine are like 592, and <600, I didn't know what to think. My first reaction was absolute panic, and my heart sunk. Do these numbers mean anything more to someone more knowledgeable on EBV here? Someone in my Lyme support group today that I spoke to, said she had similar numbers and a clinic she was working with said to not really worry about the virus specifically, and while treating Lyme, those numbers should decrease as well. Any input on these numbers, would I be better off asking in another sub-section?

I'm not knowledgeable regarding EBV - and when it should be treated (if at all) - but I'm sure you will get some feedback from other members.

Although no medicine can cure an EBV infection, you can take these steps at home to ease your symptoms:
Get plenty of rest.
Drink a lot of water and other liquids to stay hydrated.
Suck on lozenges or ice pops, or gargle with warm salt water, to make your sore throat feel better.

I've taken Rx Valtrex and Famvir for EBV.

For herbals I've used Lomatium and Monolaurin

I was told resveratrol is very helpful in preventing replication of the virus – would Japanese knotweed give the same benefits for EBV as resveratrol? There are a number of herbs that are specific for EBV – but I do want to note that nearly everyone is positive for EBV. For most people it is something that does not cause problems. However, if you are experiencing chronic fatigue like symptoms, it can be the cause. The antiviral herbs specific for EBV that are also widely systemic in the body are: lomatium, andrographis, reishi, licorice, isatis, Japanese knotweed, Chinese skullcap root, and fresh ginger root. The organism also damages mitochondria and their function which is what leads to such low energy levels. The herbs specific for protecting mitochondria and their function are: cordyceps, motherwort, rhodiola, Chinese skullcap root, kudzu.

I would start with:
• Herbal tincture combination of: Chinese skullcap, licorice, isatis, and lomatium. Equal parts of each tincture mixed together, ¼ tsp 3x daily. AND
• Tincture combination of: rhodiola, reishi, kudzu. Same dosage AND
• Cordyceps 2000 mg 3x daily or tincture: ¼ tsp 3x daily (you can purchase from sagewomanherbs.com)

And do this for 60 days and see if it helps.

You may have to buy the herbs separately and mix them yourself or try woodlandessence.com or elkmountainherbs.com as sources.

Since I don't have a doctor to prescribe anti-virals - and they have never worked well for me anyway - I have been using Lysine to help control my EBV. Lysine and arginine compete for the same pathway in the body - arginine is what helps things like EBV to proliferate, so by taking the lysine, I block the arginine and keep my EBV under control.

Yes - this needs to be treated. It can really do some damage to the body if left uncontrolled. While some people do experience the EBV numbers going down during treatments for these infections, the treatments for bacterial and protozoan infections won't treat any viral infections you may have. Without treating the viral infections, you will likely slow down your healing from the other infections as well. It's all about the load on the body.

Yes, you need to treat EBV. I was also diagnosed with it and it was definitely one of the main reasons I wasn't getting better. I have treated with prescribed antivirals before but they made me feel too bad (I herxed, even though people say this isn't possible- I got brain frog, fatigue, etc).

i am currently treating EBV with IMNV tincture, olive leaf extract, echinacea, and colloidal silver. For those who say herxing on antivirals isn't possible, I just want to let everyone know that I have developed a huge antiviral rash from taking these all together- I even confirmed that it was an antiviral rash when I went to the doctor yesterday, she said not to worry and that it would calm down.

So be careful and don't underestimate antivirals.

I was going to post a similar question, Josh. I just saw my doctor for a 2 month check after starting treatment again. Test results showed me positive for both EBV and Coxsackie Virus. The naturopath said that we needed to treat the viruses and then Babesia before we can even begin treating the Lyme successfully.

Just for your reference, my test results were as follows:

EBV VCA IgG >8.0

EBV VCA IgM <0.2

So I'm much lower than you and he told me that the 2 months I did of Lyme treatment basically did nothing due to the viral infection.

I'm taking Valtrex and Plaquenil Prescriptions for the next 2 months as well as Takuna (OTC drops recommended by my ND)

Firstly, thank you all for the responses. I feel like there's so much to learn from different people's experiences.

Tickbite666: If you've started that regimen, have you noticed any relief of symptoms? It sounds like an awful lot to be doing, have to buy all these herbs/supplements separately adds up quickly. Just the supplements my doctor has me on alone are a ridiculous hit to the wallet.

Traveler: I was thinking the same thing as far as needing to treat this before moving onto any of the other things. (Lyme, Candida, any of the co-infections I don't even know about yet..)

So far the doctor prescribed Valtrex, I've yet to pick it up and start it though. I believe she also wants me to get monolaurin. As well as a supplement called CORE to address my pyroluria. I've just felt like crap for so long, I'm praying this will give me ANY relief. My sleep and my memory are suffering so badly, and I am constantly fatigued. It sucks having to cut down my schooling to like 1-2 courses a semester, because it's just overwhelming and you can't remember anything you read.
