Dog ticks

We find a lot of ticks in New England. Majority are dog this year. I will test all I find attached for tbd.

I'm debating treating for dog tick bite provocatively until I get the results back from umass.

Wondering if anyone had a dog tick come back pos. I know it can happen but is far less likely than a deer tick to be pos. Not much info on line about positive dog ticks.

I have been finding mostly dog ticks up here and many of them are female. I have only encountered a few deer ticks so far. I don't know how many I might have missed on my dog, but we have been diligent in checking.

The last month was very bad for dog ticks. There were so many, almost every day. It seems to have slowed down a bit the last few days.

Everyone take care and keep up the good work checking for ticks. Get them before they bite.

PeteZa, Im not sure about that. My dog has been bitten by dog ticks many, many times and so far no issues. He is vaccinated against it, but dont now if I fully trust it because of different strains of the bacteria's etc.

So far he hasn't shown exposure to it yet according to my vet.

The female ones I found were on our mudroom floor where we enter the house. So be careful. They come in your home via on us and pets even when checking all the time.


I'll have to do some research on the tick paralysis, that's scary, sorry your dog had that.
