If not remembering what you were doing from a moment to the next is already dementia, I guess most neuro lyme patients have dementia?
I went out, did not know where I was going.
When I remembered, I forgot the way to go.
When I remembered and reached the place, I had to go back because I had forgotten my wallet so could not do what I wanted.
I met people that kept saying hello to me, calling my name, and I had no idea who they were.
I tried to read just a short article in a newspaper. No matter how many times I read, I understood the words, but not the connection between them.
The article made no sense at all! I could not understand what the author was talking about
.
Maybe because I forgot the beginning of it? I don't know the reason anymore.
It was very frustrating. After trying 4, 5 times, I gave it up.
That was my lyme brain back in 2005.
I could speak 5 languages before that, defended my PhD in a foreign country in two languages that were not mine.
During lyme I didn't even know how to calculate simple sums of money anymore.
All my languages disappeared except for basic words from my mother tongue and English (that I learned as a child too).
With lyme treatment, a HOLISTIC treatment, I think I got all my brain abilities back.
The moment lyme went dormant in 2009, and after almost losing my life for it, I knew how thin was the thread that linked my body to life.
And how easy it is to have a wrecked brain that can barely pronounce words.
So I immediately started learning classic piano. I always wanted to do that but never did, as I kept postponing it.
I was 40+ then. Lyme remission, then bought a piano, then took lessons with a Russian professional player.
7 years after, I'm able to play Bach, even a Fugue. Without a normal functioning brain, that would not be possible (due to coordination, memorization, speed of the composition, complexity of polyphonies).
I'm far from being a professional, I do make mistakes when the fugue is too long, but I know my brain is back. I'm 50 now!
So keep going, treat lyme, and get your brain back!! It's possible, I think, if permanent damage did not occur yet.
