Clarithromycin and doxy question

Can I take them together? I will be taking doxy 100 mg twice daily and Clarithromycin 500mg twice daily. Can the Clarithromycin tabs be split in half to start?

Yes, doxy and biaxin can be taken together.



I was going to say that the doxy should be 200 mg twice daily but I subscribe to an online treatment book and one of the protocols is clarithromycin 500 mg twice daily with doxy 100 mg OR 200 mg twice daily.

so, I guess doxy when alone needs to be 200 mg twice daily...but in combination can be 100 mg twice daily.

You could split the clarithromycin in half or you could just take the one pill once daily for a while until you go to full dose of 500 mg twice daily.

Doxy is hard on the stomach...so I recommend you take it with food.

I think Clarithromycin helped me quite a bit in the beginning especially for my mycoplasma. I am still taking it but with minocycline instead of cefdinir. So I am basically doing the same protocol you are.

You may be wise to start the Clarithromycin at half dose. I just started a similar protocol monday ; clarithromycin and cefdinir. I followed Girlie's advice and staggered the start and am glad I did. I reacted very poorly to full dose of clarithromycin after just 2 doses: anxiety, depression, and insomnia came on strong and I stopped after just 3 doses. Better today but it's gonna take a few days to wash out. Hopefully doc will give me something else.
