Help with test results interpretation?

Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone would offer some thoughts on my test results. about 5-6 weeks ago, I was reactive to bands 66 and 41 on a Western blot from Quest. Two weeks ago, my doctor ordered tests from MDL. He is currently out for the week, but I was able to pick up my results. I have attached images at the bottom that will hopefully work! But here it is, in short...



Lyme IgG Western blot: positive for 93/83 and 41. Apparently the bands need to be at least 60% intensity to be positive, and I also had band 23 show up at only 54% intensity, so that did not count on the test it looks like. But what does this mean? It showed up almost enough to count as positive, and it's a very specific band, right?

Lyme IgM Western Blot: negative. I had band 41 show up at 51%, and bands 39, 34, and 31 show up at 30% so none of these were intense enough to be considered positive.

I tested positive for Babesia microti. IgG positive 1.33.

Lyme disease PCR was negative.

So I'm just confused about these results. Given that some of them were close to the 60% intensity but not quite there, what does that even mean? What would be your thoughts on these results? I do know my symptoms count very much as well.

Hi Rubymeg - welcome!

83-93 is lyme 'specific'. And band 23 being 54% (when 60% is positive) would still be significant - it's not a negative and very close to the cut-off for positive.

It is enough to back up a clinical diagnosis of Lyme disease.

And, since you're positive for Babesia...that also sways this to the positive side.

Lyme and Babs often go together (with others' as well)

Since you have symptoms - it's time to seek out a LLMD.
