I've learned something recently about coffee drinking (with lyme).

Freshly brewed coffee I have no issues with (straight black coffee, no sugar, no cream).

The instant coffee that comes in those Kcups (keurig) my body does not like.

With kcups I feel weird and off-kelter after drinking them.

Freshly brewed coffee I get the wanted effects of the caffeine but no "hangover" so to speak.

Anyone else experience this contrast, depending upon what kind or how fresh the coffee is?

I have never tried a Keurig. So I have not compared.

Hubby makes the coffee here. I buy it, he makes it. I don't even know how our coffee maker works. LOL

Keurig is coffee that gets made in like 30 seconds and who know what is in those kcups. Real coffee can not and should not be made in 30 seconds.

I'm sure there's some link of why one messes with me (30 second coffee, made from who knows what) and one that doesn't mess with me.

dacarte - I'm not a coffee drinker - never have liked it...BUT, I'm pretty sure Keurig is NOT instant.

Instant coffee - you stir it in the water and it dissolves.

keurig is brewed- but just faster...the water is pushed through...but you're not dissolving the coffee grounds.

I only use an almond milk creamer in my coffee and I use a french press for my morning cup. I wonder if the keurig maker has some mold trapped in their since most aren't cleaned regularly? That could definitely bother you.

That's strange. I was also under the impression that those cups are just small amounts of coffee that the water gets pushed through. A bit like putting you cup directly under the coffee maker.

Do you drink coffee regularly? I love coffee, but have cut it out now that I'm treating as I've heard it's bad. On the other hand, everything seems to be bad so who knows right?

I would love to start drinking it regularly again, but maybe not the 6-7 cups a day as before

My LLMD said my morning cup (or two really given the size of mugs today!) was okay. I use either an almond or coconut creamer. He also suggested coconut oil, which sometimes I add.

I think it's one of those individual things - try and it, and if it bothers you then stop.

i drink coffee, but my gut likes green/black tea much more than coffee. i dont know whats going on. guess GI fragility

Kuerig machines are notorious for mold. I also don't think they use high quality coffee. What brand of fresh brewed are you using at home?

Bad use of the term on my part. I just meant it's made quite "instantly".

There's a chance it isn't the coffee but the delivery system. Not just the mould, but also the problem with the amount of aluminium leached by (acidic) coffee from the foil pods themselves as well as the aluminium heating element.

From what I've read, aluminium and lyme aren't a good combination.

I'd suggest going back to a stainless steel and glass plunger or a proper stovetop expresso coffee maker like this: http://www.bonjourproducts.com/Coffee-and-Tea/BonJour-Coffee-6-Cup-Stovetop-Espresso-Maker-Metallic-53917.html

These make amazingly great coffee with no chemicals or aluminium in place.

a regional pesticide maybe ?

Time to brew through some vinegar water to clean it out in case those indicating mold are correct.

Once I went to using a French Press I never considered using anything else. As long as you stir it and let it sit 5 minutes before plunging it is the best. I am fortunate to be nearby local growers.

The coffee cherry is actually a tasty fruit but I don't know why its not used for anything.

Maybe its because the brunt of the pesticides would be on it.

It would make on helluva jam if organic.

Lots of coffee drinkers here with lyme. I had anxiety so bad I could not drink coffee in the AM. Its bad for reflux (GERD) too.

I can drink it again in the AM, but it did start up / bother / brings back GERD- So I just use instant Kava brand low acid coffee from walmart. Much easier on my gut......wow! I put some unsweetened almond milk in it too.

Seen lots of different keurig coffee "cup" things/flavors at the stores by many brands.
