LLMD in NY/NJ/CT State

Hello,
As in the subject I need a LLMD in NY, NJ, CT State or any state that is as close as possible to zip code 12428.
It is urgent. I also need to do a blood test and get the result ASAP (if possible). if you could advice on that as well.

Welcome to our community!

I'll be brief - as I'm just heading to bed.

You can call Igenex Lab in California and they will send you a test kit.
Igenex Lab specializes in tickborne disease testing.

When you get the kit - you need a Dr to sign the lab req - then get the blood drawn and send the kit back to Igenex.

The best test to get is the Lyme WB IgM and IgG.
Cost is $210.

Do the test on Monday so it gets back to Igenex before the weekend or else it sits until Monday - as Igenex is closed for the weekend.

roger - is this a recent tick bite infection?

(sense of urgency?)


If so, I would try to get a Dr. to give you a prescription for doxy a.s.a.p.

I apologize for not explaining my situation, I got home very late last night...

I was bitten by a blacklegged nymph tick the end of June. It was on me for about 36 hours. I sent the tick to the Arizona lab that collaborates with the BALF, which was supposed to give me the results in maximum of 21 days, but I am still waiting. They don't respond to the phone or email. The foundation sent an email yesterday to solicit, but no answer so far.

In the mean time I was reading and getting as much information as possible and monitoring for early signs, but I didn't get anything. No rush, no fever, no fatigue, nothing of the most common ones I read around the net. I thought I was quite safe, but a few days ago I experienced some numbness and tingling(mild) on my right hand. I wasn't alarmed at the beginning because I have experienced it already at times and I have a little pain in my carpal tunnel from using the mouse. That feeling went away the day after, but 2 nights ago it started again on both hands (still more on the right side), most a mild sensation of tingling, sometimes also felt in the legs and the feet. Just a very mild and brief tingling sensation. Most likely if I hadn't known about the tick bite, I wouldn't have paid too much attention to it, but I have to admit I was worried. It stayed with me all day yesterday and in the evening I had a strange sensation to my chin. it wasn't really numb or tingling, but I felt a similar feeling when you have some numbness and you are recovering from it, close to the feeling you get after a local anesthetic in your tooth begins to wear off, if it makes any sense at all.

At that point I got really, really worried and wrote the post.
to be 100 per cent accurate, I have to say that I had a lower molar pulled off (and an infection of the gum) recently and I read that can cause that kind of reaction in the chin, but the extraction took place more than 2 weeks ago and there would still be no explanation about the hands and feet.
I have to say that I feel much better today, but I still have that feeling in the chin and it slightly burns if I rub it.
I think at this point I really need to do a test and/or see a LLMD.
Please let me know any comment, question or suggestions.

P.S.: after the tooth extraction the dentist prescribed a week of Amoxicillin 500 mg. Do you think that could have impacted the lyme and slowed it down a little?

The amoxy was 500 mg - once per day?

That would be a very very low dose - may have stirred something up though.

Here's an excerpt from the ILADS Guidelines regarding tick bite treatment (when no EM or other symptoms have arisen)

TREATMENT CATEGORIES

PROPHYLAXIS of high risk groups- education and preventive measures. Antibiotics are not given.

TICK BITES - Embedded Deer Tick With No Signs or Symptoms of Lyme (see appendix):
Decide to treat based on the type of tick, whether it came from an endemic area, how it was removed,
and length of attachment (anecdotally, as little as four hours of attachment can transmit pathogens). The risk of transmission is greater if the tick is engorged, or of it was removed improperly allowing the tick's contents to spill into the bite wound. High-risk bites are treated as follows (remember the possibility of co-infection!):
1) Adults: Oral therapy for 28 days.
2) Pregnancy: Amoxicillin 1000 mg q6h for 6 weeks. Test for Babesia, Bartonella and Ehrlichia.
Alternative: Cefuroxime axetil 1000 mg q12h for 6 weeks. 3) Young Children: Oral therapy for 28 days.

Actually, Amoxi 500 mg, one tablet every 8 hours. I took a total of 21 tablets in one week.

Still a low dose (I took 1000 mg 3X daily plus a medication called Probenecid that kept the amoxy in the bloodstream longer) - Amoxy has a really short half-life of one hour.


But, probably enough (500 mg 3X daily) to do some killing of the bacteria.

Girlie, I have a question for you or anybody who wants to give me a suggestion. I called a few LLMD's and they are very, very expensive. It goes from 700 to more than 2,000 just for an initial consultation. Quite frankly, I cannot afford that kind of money, plus what could they tell me at this stage, except to get a blood test? so now, I can go ahead and get the blood test done. the problem is the turnaround is about 2 weeks. Should I just seat and wait or start some medication? I am very thorn because one side of me doesn't want to take unnecessary medication but the other side doesn't want to wait if I am infected as the more I wait the worse it gets.
Any recommendation?

roger - I posted the guidelines for a tick bite with no symptoms but if you do have symptoms, then you need to treat even longer.


Yes $700 is expensive but it's well-worth it.

I know there are some LLMD's that do charge less - around the $400 range.

Keep phoning and see if you can get one that isn't quite so expensive.

Those could very well be symptoms.

Hi Roger and welcome,

Sorry you are experiencing symptoms, but listen to your body. Its telling you something isnt right.

It s better to treat and make sure than to not treat and down the road you have full blown neuro Lyme or arthritic Lyme.

These infections are powerful and can be disabling.

I would post seeing if anyone in your area goes to a llmd that takes insurance. Or I would find a way to see an llmd. maybe they would work out a payment plan for you.

There are books you can get :"Unlocking Lyme' By Dr William Rawls, and "Healing Lyme" By Stephen Buhner, excellent books.

Thank you very much. Unfortunately, I don't have any insurance, but a payment plan could be a good option...
I decided to get a blood test right away. If I test positive I'll find a LLMD.
I'll take a look at these books.
