Celebrities and Lyme

Okay, I've been reading all the stories about the numerous celebrities with Lyme disease. It's making me nervous.

Usually when celebrities come forward about illnesses, it's a good thing. It brings awareness and sometimes financial support for more research. But with Lyme, I fear the opposite is going to happen. I'm afraid the medical community will cast an even more suspicious eye towards regular people suffering with Lyme and will think they're all hypochondriacs trying to get attention with the latest celebrity fad, as if they're copying a celebrity hairstyle or something.

Unless you have a perfectly legitimate CDC approved positive ELISA and Western blot or a textbook presentation of a bull's eye rash following a known tick bite, then you already have a lot to prove to the conventional medical doctors. For many of us, our symptoms cannot be confirmed or validated by any conventionally approved medical tests, either. That's scary.

As messed up as our medical system is and as willfully ignorant as many of our medical providers are, we still need them. Not just a primary care doctor, either, but specialists, too. Lyme can cause all sorts of damage to multiple body systems. I'm hoping to avoid full-blown disease and destruction, but I know many have already experienced that, and some have had to have surgery for things. You don't go to a cardiologist, neurologist, or rheumatologist and keep silent and never tell them you have Lyme disease, do you?

I also wish they were more vocal about it and help more with raising awareness and maybe they could start a foundation to help some of the people that have this disease that cant afford proper treatment.

They also have the power to due to wealth and fame to impact are legislators here in the states.

I'm not saying that they are required because of fame and fortune to help but because it would be morally right to do so since they themselves know the suffering that we face from the disease and the financial and emotional aspect of it all.

I can only imagine how many are suffering and not getting proper help.
