How accurate is this test?

Here is the link to the test I think i'll do, if you guys can confirm it is worth doing.

To translate it in English, it basically means it is a Borrelia Burgdorferi DNA test using PCR.

The full name of the test sounds like this: Real-time PCR Light-Cycler

I have to choose in which form the sample will be collected. I will probably go for the urine test as the most safe option.

Also, is CD57 a good indicator of Lyme disease? should I get that also?

I dont know about that test.. If the Igenx test is available in your location I would strongly suggest doing their western blot. I think its $210.

The CD57 is oftentimes NOT considered a good indicator of how bad or good you are progressing in treatment of Lyme, but I can't answer whether or not it is a good indicator of whether or not you actually have Lyme.

Western Blot IgG and IgM through Igenex is $210 - see test # 188 and 189 on Page 5, they are $105 for each test.

Also, Igenex requires doctor's signature, and I can't get that.

Have you already asked? you might be surprised.

We have clinics here in the states and many just go to a clinic and ask if the doctor will sign. Try those, try the hospital. You have to be smarter than the system and not take no for an answer. You have to think positive and be somewhat aggressive if you have lyme and want treatment.

Consider asking a chiropractor. They can sign also.

Good luck and you go for it. The word "can't" has to be changed when you have lyme. You don't say can't, you say "it might be difficult."

That's unfortunately harder for me as a student. If I'll go to a doctor to sign this, i'll have to pay him for consulting me, and then he will probably not agree to sign this, because it could have legal consequences for taking responsibility. So, yeah.

Ok, someone please clarify to me what exactly Igenex Wb lgM and lgG test consists of for $210? If I order the kit, what samples do I need to provide? Blood? CSF? Urine?

Are you in the US? If not, call IGeneX and inquire about the strains it covers and the likelihood they match up with possible strains you've been exposed to.

Also - PCR, when it detects the Bb is VERY accurate. However, the major concern is testing an infected sample. Bb doesn't hang out in blood, synovial fluid, urine very long. It does burrow into tissues but what tissues do you sample? Sof this is why most MDs use IGeneX.

However, in your case PCR might be best.

Lyme is also a clinical diagnosis since the testing is so poor- here is a questionnaire you can complete to help determine infection and coinfections:

It is the Lyme WB IgM and Lyme WB IgG

Each is $105

#188 and # 189


You call Igenex and order the test kit...they send it to you no charge.

You get a Dr. to sign the lab req. Get the blood drawn - either in the Dr. office or go to a lab for the blood draw.
Send it to Igenex via Fedex.

Do this test on a Monday or Tuesday so it gets to Igenex before the week-end - as they are closed on weekends.

Re: pcr.

As P said - if it's positive it's very accurate - the dna of the bacteria has been identified in your sample.


Here's why there may be a false negative:

Think of your blood as a bowl of red jello. And little green blobs dispersed in the red jello are the bacteria.

You take a sample out of that bowl...you may or may not have one of those green blobs in the sample taken.

It will come back negative. It doesn't mean you don't have the bacteria in your blood...just not in that relatively small sample.
