Last week I bought an infrared light - handheld. It uses multi waves of far, near, etc. I used it for two days, each section at five minutes each. Five is the lowest amount they recommend. On the third day, my neck was so stiff I couldn't move. I was stuck in bed in excruciating pain! Little by little it's getting better, but here we are, a week later, and it's still stiff as hell. I feel like I got bad bad whiplash.
I emailed my LLMD and she wanted me to detox (charcoal 3x per day, turmeric 3x per day, lemon water). I admit, I have not done them consistently, mostly because I still feel terrible. Yesterday, I just felt ill like I was covered in warm tar.
What happened? I thought infrared light was supposed to heal and make me feel better! I get that I was moving around toxins, but is it possible I did some actual damage here? My poor neck. I can't believe I did this much damage in so little time.
I'm also worried about
doing the infrared sauna. I have an appointment on Saturday and I'm wondering if I should skip it.

Hi 10LymeB -
I'm sorry you're herxing - it is no fun. But you've clearly hit something. When my neck got painful and stiffened like you're describing, I was herxing from ramping up bart tx. Red root was VERY helpful in getting the lymphs draining and circulation improved.
I agree w/ your LLMD - detoxing is probably going to be helpful. Try some detox soaks too, if you can. Warm compresses on your neck and once things start to improve, you might try a little massage but be careful and read up on it first. If you think it's a lymph issue, dry brushing and lymph massages can also be helpful.
If you're not feeling considerably better from this flare by Saturday I would definitely skip the IR sauna. But if you are better, I would do the sauna but for only a very short period and slowly increase each time you go.
Hang in there -

Thanks Pirouette. I feel like I must have hit the gold mine! It's so knotted up and painful, even today
I'll keep detoxing.
Should I ease up on my lyme killing herbs too?

I agree with Pirouette about
skipping the sauna.
Lyme treatment is about
balance. If you kill (meds or herbs) more than you eliminate (detox) you will have a herx.
Up that detox. It is treatment just as substantial as meds or herbs.

As a newbie, totally agree about
skipping a treatment. I've just backed off of antibiox...again. Stomach hurting too bad. Listen to your body.
