Hello everyone.....I am new to this website and just need some input I guess. I live in So Cal and had a tick pulled out of my neck about two to three months ago. about three weeks ago, I woke up and both hands were stiff and unable to close. The left one worse....painful and scary as I have never had any problem with arthritis at all. This happened overnight and I am in my third week with no change. My doc had me tested for Lyme disease (at my request) through Quest and my result was 0.9. I believe he thinks the answer is no. I still think it’s a probability. Any thoughts?

Hi Goldbon2017 and welcome to our forum,

Unfortunate about the tick bit and symptoms but its good you have found us.

Testing can be unreliable, it is best to test with Igenix or DNA connections. A basic Lyme panel can be done with Igenix for about 210 dollars and at DNA for 500.

You would nee to have a MD sign the request for Igenix(Go to their site and order kit) and I believe no MD required for DNA connections.

Your initial testing could be negative due to being tested too early and not having the antibodies built up yet.

Many members here have tested negative and still been clinically diagnosed with Lyme and/or co infections.

Not everyone gets the classic bulls eye.

Follow your instincts if you believe it could be Lyme.

Early proper treatment is essential and your best chance in making sure this does not turn chronic.

Welcome Goldbon2017. My first lyme test was an Elisa test with Quest and I was negative. I did the Western Blot test with Igenex and I was still considered CDC and Igenex negative.

But I had bands light up with the Ingenex - those only light up when you have lyme. According to the CDC and Igenex, I just did not have enough bands light up.

I had lyme! The tests are unreliable and your diagnosis should be based on your symptoms.

When the doctors were confusing me with no diagnosis I took these tests just to see how I scored. They also were another conviction that I had lyme.

Hi Goldbon - welcome!


You had a tick bite, and subsequent symptoms that could be attributed to LD.

I would find a LLMD and schedule an appointment for an evaluation.
Jo had given you some good direction on how to go about that.
...and testing suggestions if you do want to test with a lab that specializes testing for tick-borne diseases.

I don't remember being bit, but my Quest test was negative. Several months (and several doctors and thousands of dollars) later, my Igenix test was positive. The sooner you treat, the better your chances for a full recovery. It's definitely worth it to find an LLMD.
