non-toxic makeup

Good question.

I rarely wear makeup anymore but sometimes I like to wear a powder foundation to reduce the bright flaring blushing that can occur when I am talking in front of people, in a meeting with clients, giving a presentation. I have very fair skin and blood rushes to my face when I laugh, cough, bend over and of course when there is even the slightest uptick in my heart rate. In a professional environment, it's miserable. It's close to having every single emotion and thought clearly readable on your face.

Multiple times people have made comments to me. Once I had a boss once tease me in front of 40 of my colleagues for "blushing". He thought it was cute. I'm a professional adult - not a kid. I was humiliated. And of course, he's only saying out loud what others are thinking.

Anyway... I've liked wearing Bare Minerals. It's a little more expensive but it is literally a powder made from healthy minerals and as advertised, it's safe to wear because it replenishes minerals missing from our daily lives. Now, I don't know about this specifically and I never wore it every day, but it has helped clear up breakouts so that's kind of cool. I have no idea if there is an organic version - that would be even better.

Also - if you're going organic, be sure to include tampons, pads, wipes or whatever you might use. The chemicals in regular tampons have DIRECT access to our system right through the vaginal walls... kind of disturbing if you think about it. They take a little getting used to, are a little more expensive but so grateful for them - a couple of good brands out there (NatraCare is my fav).

And I found an awesome organic shower gel by Nourishing Organics that has a mint-lavender scent. I am wild over how this stuff smells - they also make it in hand soap and everyone comments on it.

I switched to the menstrual cup, and I love it! Took some time to get used to, but if you get Lena, even from Amazon, and it doesn’t work, they will send you a different size, or refund you. I hated it, but it turns out I just needed a different size! Cuts the price of all those organic tampons!

As far as makeup, I don’t wear any, so I can’t help you there. Bare Minerals would have been my first guess. Or just drop one thing every few weeks and ease out of it, so you don’t suddenly look sick. I stopped doing foundation and just used loose powder. Then I stopped mascara and just curled. I rarely did lipstick, but dropped it all together for lip balm. By the time I was down to just eye shadow, I don’t think anyone noticed. I also moved a lot and my husband hates makeup, so it wasn’t like I had an appearance to keep up.

If I’m going outside I have a tinted mineral sunscreen... which I found in a box of junk from a friend, so I don’t even know what kind it is!

I am very curious about the menstrual cup. I haven't tried it but definitely interested - was not crazy about having the rubber or silicone next to such sensitive skin tissues like that (I have a Latex allergy and I am suspicious that I have sensitivities to other similar chemicals). But I know there is a version that is for sensitive skin - just haven't tried it.

Jasperilla - interesting about RMS - might look into that product.

Speaking of sunscreen - I'm going to post a question so I don't hijack a good thread, here...
