Dr. J in Washington DC

I was wondering if anyone on this forum has been treated by Dr. J in Washington DC. I was particularly interested in whether you took more of a immune deficiency approach to treatment. Maybe tried treating with HIV-type drugs. And, if so, did you find that it was helpful.

wow - just saw youtube video on this Dr. Person said he charges 2k to 7k per visit. That's astronomical. Unless he has a 100% cure rate, I don't think I'll be paying that price.

Our DK has been there for just short of 2 years. Dr. J is not using immunotherapy but as Girlie said, pulses antibiotics/anti-malerials and some herbs with weeks off to give the body a break and eventually allow the immune system to start taking over as it comes back online. This approach has brought our DK back to pretty good health and we are hoping that we are close to the back end of this. It is a gentler way that taking daily antibiotics that's for sure. Hope this helps answer your question. Hopefully some others going there will chime in.

Also, the first appointment is the most expensive and longest but still less that $1K. After that there's a 6 week follow up and then every 2-4 months as time passes. You can do the later ones by Skype after the first two in-person ones. The later appointments are less expensive - several hundred. It only gets insanely expensive if you need IV abx because no insurance companies pay for over 1 month of it. Pediatric and many adults there use orals and insurance tends to cover those. It's the appts and supplements, probiotics etc that add to the cost.

My last doctor had me pulsing abx. Unfortunately, that was really my only option because I had to work during the week, so I could only take the abx on the weekends. My new doc has me taking shots of penicillin (I think its actually called bacicillin or something like that) on the weekends. She decided to do this because its a slow acting abx and it spans the week. But it makes me feel deathly ill, so I don't think I'll be doing this for long. I need to take off Mon and Tuesday to take that shot, otherwise I have cold chills all day at work, and feel nauseous while in meetings and what not.

When I called the office about a year ago asking about the fees...at that time I think it was $700/800 for the initial consult.
But, you often go 3 months between appointments...where other LLMD's may want to see you every 4-8 weeks.

When you say 'cold chills' - are you shivering inside? That's one of my symptoms and it's gotten worse while other symptoms have subsided. I'm wondering if it's Babesia...what infection are you attributing it to.

I've had a spike in symptoms and decided not to mess with anyone I'm not confident with. I called Dr J's clinic yesterday and was able to secure an appointment for this Tuesday. It's a little over a 5 hour drive for me. But, totally worth it as I feel confident in this clinic from what I have read.

I am really hoping this works out. The receptionist was extremely polite and helpful. She answered all my questions. And they are cheaper than the LLMD that is an hour away from me. Using that extra I'm saving for gas and a hotel stay in DC.

Which person are you seeing?

My appointment is at 9 am. Not sure the rules with disclosing name here. Her initials are A. W.. My initial consult will be with her. She is a PA-C.

haha. Nope, just shows how much I'm on this forum...glued to my seat...for several hours each day...that's all.
