Hi all,
Curious if folks have any suggestions for herbal or otherwise treatment of vasculitis, including temporal arteritis.
Thanks!

I don't know of herbal treatments for it - other than treating the infection that has caused it.
Have you been diagnosed with it?
Is Temperal arteritis the same as giant cell art?
I had looked it up a few years ago when I was sleuthing out what might be wrong with me and came across Polymyalgia Rheumatica - As GCA is sometimes part of that.
I recall the treatment being steroids for a year or two.
The test for GCA is a biopsy. Have you had one done?
Mike - do you have bad headaches?

Hi
I know Buhner talks about
protecting the endothelial function. He has some suggestions in his 2nd lyme book I think, but unfortunately I don't have it here.

Mike - have you thought about
going to a Rheumatologist - I believe they are the ones who diagnose GCA?
I think the biopsy is the gold standard...though, not sure if you'd want to do that.
I read that it's not too bad - as far as being invasive?
But, the Rheumy may be able to rule it out without a biopsy...just by listening to your symptoms...

Girlie - I actually saw a Rheumy in Feb as my current LLND thought I might have it and the Rheumy then had me go to an Eye Doctor who apparently specialized in this and he said I couldn't have it because I was too young. Seriously. He said I had migraines and wouldn't do a biopsy. Needless to say I was nonplussed. So I let it go to focus on other things, but recently has crept into my mind again as a possibility.

What an arse - I mean - geez - you want to rule it out and never think about
it again.
I did read that the biopsy isn't so bad so why not do it for peace of mind.

Yeah - the only other thing I'll say about
him is that he reminded me of an Infectious Disease doc ;)
I may try to get another opinion... Just makes sense to me.

Do you have a raised ESR?
It is often with Temporal Arteritis.
Avg age is something like 72 and higher percentage of women get it compared to men.
So you have a couple things in your favour
Also something like 15% of people with TA also have Polymyalgia Rheumatica - you don't have PR symptoms -right?
So odds are in your favour!!

It can be associated with Q Fever, which is another reason why I'm curious
