I've taken Alinia on three occasions through my long treatment
1. 5-23-13 to 9-20-13 added Alinia to Mino, Bactrim, Tindamax after a long period on IV Rocephin and Mepron combos fighting Lyme and Babs. No significant impact.
2. 5-9-16 to 7-27-16 added Alinia fulltime to Ceftin and Bactrim pulse after almost a year on Cipro Bactrim combos fighting Bart. Some improvements achieved.
3. 5-1-17 to present Tetra, Diflucan and Alinia pulse 2 week on and 2 weeks off ramping up to 4 week off. Saw good improvements up to my first 4 week off and started to backslide on 4th week. Revisit protocol next Monday.
Alinia is very expensive and covered as a tier 3 script
under my BCBS plan. The manufacturer has a first month coupon to reduce out of pocket that varies per your Rx plan. I pay only a tier 1 co-pay for the first 30 day supply. Then it goes up to Tier 3. Some plans only cover a brief period and small quantity. I had United Health back in 2015 and they only allowed 6 pills per re-fill at their Tier 3 co-pay. In RI, state law requires health plans have to cover lyme related treatment for as long as the MD prescribes it. Your mileage may vary.
Alinia is said to work across all 3 B's, and is anti-parasitic. Worth a try if its covered.
