What's the best test to detect chronic Lyme?

I keep reading in different places that this test or that test is no good for detecting chronic Lyme. I have heard this regarding the WB but also heard the same about the C6 Peptide and CD57 tests.

If this is true, what test would be best to detect Lyme in someone who's had it for several years or even decades, untreated?

The CD57 isn't a test for lyme specifically. So, wouldn't use that test for diagnosing lyme on it's own..

Is the C6 Peptide - the same as the ELISA? If so, that's not the best test either.


I would do the Lyme WB Igm and IgG. That's the best bang for your buck.
$210 total. (Igenex)


..OR Armin Labs testing. That has been gaining in popularity the last year or two.
It's the test many of the LL Dr.'s here in Canada prefer to use. I don't know how much it costs, though.

Thanks, Girlie. I did have the WB from Igenex. The IFA was equivocal and the WB was CDC and Igenex negative with only positive bands 41, 45 and 58.

My LLMD thinks it's likely Lyme per my symptoms and history of tick bite but won't treat me with anything but herbs without a positive test. I'd like to know for sure if it is so more treatment options are open to me. I was wondering about some of the other tests. I know there's a urine test at DNA Connexions and there's some new iSpot test. But since so many tests don't seem to be very reliable on people with long-term Lyme, I'm wondering which one would be best.

I would do the Armin labs test then.


Will your Dr. accept the DNA Connexions test results? I'd ask first before spending the $500.

I knew a few Dr.'s won't use that test...although people are getting good results with it.


Oh yes - Igenex has those new tests...I don't know anyone who has had it done yet..
I am curious though. It sounds like they maybe the same or similar to the Armin Lab test (Ispot)

Maybe I'll consider the Armin Labs test, thanks.

I think my current doc would be open to those tests or maybe another doc would if I wanted to try some other treatments. I'm spending a lot of money right now on expensive herbs and supplements to treat Borrelia. It would be good to know for sure what I'm truly dealing with.

Yes, but we have to work with what the LL Dr.'s are asking for. Her LL Dr. wants a positive test result.
If they don't accept microscopy - then it's not going to help her get treatment.

Well maybe the herbs will work for me and I won't need further treatment. But I would be interested to know regardless. I was feeling pretty sure about it myself since I have nearly all the symptoms of Lyme disease, but I have been told mold or mycoplasma can bring on similar symptoms as Borrelia. Oh and I tested borderline positive for Bartonella. Maybe that's causing my symptoms.

As for microscopy, is that something I need to do myself, mpost, or what? I've seen some posts here where some people do. Or are you talking about PCR testing?

I've been listening to Dr. Rawls who says it really doesn't matter what bugs you have, but I can't help wanting to know.

It doesn't necessarily matter what bugs you have if you're going to treat coinfections. At least the three major ones: B, B, and B.

Or, alternatively - treat based on symptoms....but that doesn't always work. Dr. H. and Dr. J. talk about asymptomatic Babesia holding back treatment success.

Funny, I just squirted the last of a bottle of cryptolepis into my tincture this morning and was thinking I might not buy more because I don't really have the symptoms of Babesia. But maybe I better buy another bottle after all!
