How long to stay on herbs?

Hello alll so i switched to herbs from abx 2 weeks ago and am slowly increasing the dose.

I am taking cats claw, knotsweed, astralagus and will be adding in andrographis in few days once it arrives.

My question is how long do I keep taking these herbs? Can they cause damage to liver etc?

The rule of thumb is to treat for 2 months after symptoms stop. I take NAC to support the liver. I believe dandelion root is good for that also.

If you are concerned about your liver - just ask your Dr. for liver function tests done every 4-6 weeks .


I'd stay on the herbals for several months past remission.

Thanks both, are the herbs harmful to the liver? I will only ask for the tests if they are. I am taking milk thistle along with these herbs too

There may be some herbals that are hard on the liver...but generally speaking, most herbs aren't - not like the antibiotics are.

I just found a post online with a similar question to Stephen Buhner who said some of the herbs should help with liver if anythin.

I don’t have a dr at the moment as the one i saw before wanted me to stop antibiotic treatment after 6 weeks so I never went back, will continue the herbs and keep flushing down as much water as I can.

Yes, some herbs in particular help the liver - Milk thistle seed extract is one of them.
Dandelion root is another.

Thanks for the advice 1000daises. Have the herbs effected your liver at all?

The llmd I had keeps asking me to take an Elisa test but it’s so expensive and so unreliable so I don’t see the point.

I personally know someone who has been in remission for almost 15 years, and she continues to take a maintenance dose of samento and banderol every day. To my knowledge, she has had no ill effects from long term use of herbs.
