Hi birthdaysuit -
I would continue evaluating the babesia component.
But unfortunately, those sx could also be from Lyme. The sx you mentioned and a few others flared for me to critical levels after I started Rocephin. I literally cycled from one extreme emotion to another, every hour for a few days. It was horrifying and looking back, I'm a little surprised I made it - that nothing happened. They improved with more tx and certainly more detoxing.
The psychological and cognitive sx called neurological-psychological or neuro-psych sx are due to neurotransmitter imbalances, which can be caused by multiple things, including the infections, herxing, GI imbalances, neurotoxins, etc.
The stronger and healthier I was able to get my GI, the better these sx resolved. I also had a lot of relief from incorporating a strong GI binder.
The tinitis is often caused by inflammation - my Lyme-knowledgable neurologist has suggested most neuropathy is due to inflammation. I get little relief from anything else. He gave me a cocktail you can try:
Niacin 100mg once/day
L-lysine 500mg once/day
Lipoflavonoid one tablet once/day
I'm a little confused by your post - are you still on the Rocephin? It's possible you need to increase dose? I slowly worked up to 2g/day. But I also did this very slowly (and admittedly, wasted some of the meds doing this because pharmacy would only send 1g or 2g syringes) and increased detoxing all the way.
Another possibility is that the stress of the holidays created some inflammation in the GI - that's where we hold our stress, creating cortisol surge and that is also why it affects immune function. Maybe you just tried to do too much when your body really wanted to be still and quiet. Ebbs and flows while doing this treatment are to be expected.
Maybe it was the change in diet - holiday foods can be a little problematic. Due to the link between gut and brain (science found blood vessels linking the two) we now understand why dysfunction in the GI causes those types of neuro-psych herxing.
And, another possibility is that as you've made progress with one pathogen, another opportunistic pathogen can become dominant.

Yes, I'm still on Rocephin but went off of it a few times, flushing with saline daily to see if I would get better. Unfortunately, all of my symptoms returned, so I've been on it ever since. I take 2/g a day. Yes, the fatty, gluten food probably aided in inflammation on Thanksgiving but the anxious symptoms remain two days later.
I did notice that Rocephin helps to suppress these neuro symptoms, probably not a cure at this point. I read that rocephin is one of the most POTENT compounds at relinquishing excessive excitotoxic glutamate from the brain by way of increasing an enzyme that leads to glutamates breakdown.
So, it seems like the anxiety comes from hyperexcitabiliy.
Glutamate, ammonia and Quinolinic Acid are probably causing all of this because they all act on a single receptor known as NMDA where in excess together can lead to depression, anxiety and neuronal death.
I read some studies that basically says, CNS lyme disease patients, suicide patients and a whole bunch of other neurodegenerative disorders have markedly high leavels of Quinolinic Acid in the brain which is neurotoxic. The acid is literally released by your own immune system, such as macrophages to kill the pathogen but it doesn't and merely hurts you in the process.
From what I'm reading Quin also INCREASES glutamate by inhibiting the same enzyme Rocephin agonizes. So, Rocephin too might cause downregulation of this enzyme and that's why I always need it. Because once I stop Rocephin QUIN takes over and I'm left with excessive glutamate and desensitized glutamate breakdown enzymes.
I have niacin which was given to me to help neuropathy. Terrible flushing with it but that's the nature of it. The problem is it sort of makes my numbness much worse, I have L-lysine too from way back when.
Idk, But something is tellling me this has to do with QUIN and glutamate. The reason why is because I can not sleep. Insomniac. And if you google L-tryptophan pathway which is needed from food to create serotonin and melatonin is also used by the body to create QUIN under certain circumstances. So, I'm figuring out how to take Tryptophan but inhibiting my body from converting most of it to QUIN and instead serotonin.
