I forgot to add, eating a lot of GF alternative food is a problem as far as Candida.
Candida doesn't know the difference. Carbs are carbs. Many currently on ABX are on the edge of / or currently have candida in their gut and possibly blood. So loading up on any carbs can have consequences.
And Sweets are sweets. The gluten free cup cakes and such almost promoted as a healthy alternative crack me up.
Palio is really just a basic whole foods approach cranked up a few notches. Your heating things up in their natural state .......................minus the gluten, fat, sugar and dairy loaded gravy/slurry that many modern humans have become addicted to. I found this to be pretty easy, but do miss the variety. Socially eating this way away from home is, on the other hand, quite difficult. The only thing quicker/easier is fast food.
As far as sugar cravings when eating palio, there is fruit. But fruit digests faster than protein so its best to only eat fruit in between meals or before meals. Eating fruit after a protein meal, causes it to ferment (candida loves this) and fatty protein can double the blood sugar level from fruit..I think TRUE Paleo would have likely been more plant-based, as animal foods were not always available.
There certainly would NOT have been "Paleo Pancakes" or other such nonsense. But, most people are food addicts and look for ways to rationalize their irrational behavior. Most Paleo followers avoid legumes, because they're allegedly unhealthy. But, they'll eat coconut oil (a refined product) by the spoonful and make "Paleo Brownies"...because, you know, it's gluten-free. I can mock them a bit, because I, too, fell for the hyperbole. Obviously, there are people with valid, serious medical conditions that need to avoid certain foods (e.g. gluten, nuts, shellfish, etc.), but, for most, I doubt the necessity. Every diet, eventually, becomes like a religion.
