Probiotic recommendations

Hi folks,

I have been diagnosed with Protomyxzoa Rheumatica, and suspect I may have Candida as well. What Probiotic is recommended to compliment my 100 mg per day Doxy? Are there certain strains to be looking for?

I previously took "HMF Intensive" and see they now have "HMF Intensive 500":

1. I saw it on Amazon but in one members post, it sounded like a prescription drug. Can doctors prescribe this as a drug that insurance will cover?

2. Does it work for IBS with constipation?

3. Are there any people who should NOT use this brand?

NOTE: I have IBS-C and have been taking probiotics for two years now. I can't tell they do a thing. I've taken Nature's Way Optima Max Potency, high dose Renew Life formulas, and now the new doc has me taking Orthomolecular's Probiotic 225.

It seems that some people can get the Double-Strength (DS) version covered by insurance. The DS version has 900 Billion CFU and is, appropriately, branded "VSL#3 900."

I'm not sure about Questions #2 and #3. I'll let someone more knowledgeable respond.

I think mine are only 10 billion per capsule. Must be a "regular " or "low dose " formula.

I take two capsules at once plus a couple other types.

I take between 50 to 100 billion a day.

Agreed - 500 billion is a lot! I wonder if the old saying "Too much of a good thing is bad" applies?

As for me, I no longer take any probiotics. The only supplements I currently take are Proteolytic Enzymes, Digestive Enzymes, HCL w/Pepsin, Zinc, Multivitamin, B, C, Manganese, and an Estrogen-Blocker.

We haven't chatted in a while, but I hope you're doing well...all things considered.

Well, I'm gearing up to get on a plane and fly across the continent next month.
I need to put the nail in the lyme coffin....and I hope Dr. J. has the hammer to do it.

I certainly wish you the best of luck with Dr. J. My LLPA works for him in his clinic and says he's brilliant and really cares about his patients. So, I think you will be in good hands. He's board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease - which I'm not sure if the other well-known LLMDs are certified in Infectious Diseases.

Yes - I'm impressed - BUT - I will be seeing a NP for the majority of the appointment. The receptionist said she would schedule me on a day Dr J will be there so he can drop in and talk for 10-15 minutes.
I'll take what I can get.

Sorry - I just saw this now. I won't be going until Jan or Feb. I was told that the second appt could be a phone appt.
I think you have to go back for an in-person appt for the third one.

BUT - it's 3 months between appts. So you get six months before having to
go back.

I have been using this probio for the last few weeks and I have to say it the best probio I have EVER used, flat out, amazing stuff.

Bowels movements haven't beeen this smooth and productive in years. HIghly highly recommend it. Look at the rave reviews on amazon
