Can I Get Sick Along with Lyme?

The past few days I have felt much much worse. Nausea has come up and stomach aches which I have rarely had through Lyme treatment. My fatigue is almost unbearable. I can barely walk and when I get up I am very off balance. I also am having chills and just feeling sick. On Sunday I woke up with a really bad sore throat but then no running/stuffy nose or anything.

I havent been taking any meds now for 36 hours because I am doing a stool panel that requires me to be off the meds while doing it. Just have a couple days left. But, this makes me think it is probably not a herx, and doesn't really feel like one.

But... at the same time it doesn't really feel like a cold/flu. Do these viruses just present themselves differently since our immune system is so taxed with other stuff?

What does everyone think? Herx? Virus? Lyme sx just flaring?

I just really want to get better (or as best as I can be right now). The Lyme sx were enough to deal with. Still not great, but bearable. But, the way I am feeling now is just awful. Especially when I need to be at work getting stuff done before Christmas.

So sorry to read what you are going through.
Possibly you have picked up a bug in addition to everything.

I think you should contact your doctor it sounds like the stool panel should not be a priority right now.

Any change in anything can cause a change in your health.

Adding in new meds will give you a change and stopping meds will do the same thing.

Personal opinion here - you have stopped meds and it is like free play for the spirochetes. Nothing is chasing them, so they can come out and play.

Just my opinion remember. So my vote is it is lyme. Don't worry. You will get back on the chasing job. Just be super nice to yourself and stay away from sick people - it's that season.

Lots of good liquids (bone broth) probably after your test. Again, be super nice to yourself and rest as much as you can. We heal one heck of a lot when we sleep or rest.

You can definitely get sick, I got sick three times during the summer while I was on antibiotics and that is when I realized how much they had lowered my immune system, so much so that I could not fight off a cold, which turned into a week long illness...

So yes, you can get sick. People who say you "can't get sick" while you have lyme are wrong.

Yes you can still get sick - cold or flu virus

Hopefully these symptoms resolve soon!

I have had food poisoning along with lyme, strep throat, ear aches. It is always hard to overcome. Some infections stay for weeks and really dig in. I have picked up other infections like h pylori, e coli, coxsackie B and numerous gut parasites. that bring on new symptoms, you really have to pin them down and take some specific herbs or antibiotics to see them gone.
Lyme lowers your immune system and everything 'new' that comes along is harder to overcome.

Thank you everyone! Hopefully this passes within the next couple of days.. I am planning to start my meds back up tonight since I will be finishing the stool panel.

I've noticed that ever since I got Lyme it's hard for me to get any other illness. Not sure why.

There is a nasty stomach bug going around -- it went through my entire household this week. I just spent 36 hours nauseous and mostly in bed with chills and fatigue (and some other GI unpleasantness). I vote virus. Hope you feel better soon!

Please let us know how you feel after starting back on your treatment. It will be interesting to know if it was from briefly stopping treatment or from a flu/bug.

I've been sick almost a week now with a bad cold. It's miserable because I cough so hard and can't sleep at night, but it's cold. It'll have to wear itself out.

I had something very similar about two weeks ago. I was just finished with a 4 month stint of various antibiotics and I was feeling pretty good. I went out and filled all my prescriptions for Babesia treatment, but decided I would wait to see how I feel off the meds before I started the Babesia meds.

I went about 8 days feeling pretty good, then woke up the next day twitching like crazy and a low grade headache. By the end of the day, i had a 103 temperature felt like death and had major headache, sweating, bad sore throat, sinus pain and pressure.

At that point, I started my Clindamycin and quinine and the symptoms faded away over the next few days. Felt just like strep throat or a bad sinus infection. Guess it was stupid not to stay on the antibiotics.
