Can you herx from vitiman D supplement?

it is a known immune modulator. very likely it is a herx. 10,000 D3 is what i took for years and what my LLMD put me on.

I was also put on 10000 units a day didn’t cause me any probs

What is your lab work showing?

I wouldn't take 10,000 daily - without having lab work to show levels.


What do the lab tests show?

Vitamin D is very low at 15

Was treating this prior to considering Lyme but having bad body fatigue bouts on the 50k D2 weekly


Lyme Test was inconclusive first round have not had follow up yet

Trying 5k of D3 starting today.

Ok so I scored a 62.


So heres what's got me confused. In July my head was pounding and my neck was so stiff it took 3 months of chripracter adjustments and masssages to loosen it up.

In July August I would have been 20 points higher.

I still say I'm only 65% of normal but that's up from 45%

Can you have some level of recovery without medical assistance?

Can lyme cause low Vit D levels? Last year my levels were slightly below normal so was my free testorone. My Dr brushed it off as no big deal.

I heard vitamin D can actually lower the immune system and that's its not good for Lyme.

I was on 40,000 for a long time and didn't feel anything, my Lyme did get worse though.

So here's what I know

Going on 4 weeks now , For 2-3,days after taking D2 in 50,000ui weekly doses I would be very fatigued and my muscles burned.

I did not take my weekly dose yesterday and instead took 5,000iu of D3 yesterday and today. Yesterday I had a headache all day.

Today my brain felt like it was burning and had a major bout of rage. Brain fogged up so bad I could not think.

pretty sure there's a connection. Going to stop until I see a LLMD

vitamin D is not a regular "vitamin" as we normally think of them - in fact a vitamin is an outdated and oversimplified concept - i.e. a nutrient that causes a specific disease is deficient ( in this case rickets)

in fact vitamin D is also a hormone like substance that is involved in regulating many systems in the body. rather than just bone formation as was once believed.

one of them is the immune system. every cell in the body has vitamin D receptors and various parts of the immune response involve these receptors.

there is also a lot we still do not know about vitamin D and its actions

there are those who believe its actions are involved in many chronic diseases - see Trevor Marshall and his work for an in depth look at that topic

on the other hand - deficiency is common in many with chronic illnesses and in particular with chronic inflammation - where it seems the low levels of D3 tend to exacerbate many auto-immune and auto-inflammatory or immune dysregulation type issues.

whichever side of the debate you come down on its clear that vitamin D3 is an important chemical in the regulation of the immune system - and we should therefore not be very surprised if adding large doses causes some reaction in some people.

large oral doses also impact the microbiome significantly according to several studies - and this in itself could cause symptom flares in the already chronically ill population who tend to be reactive to foods and treatments that impact the gut and its microbiome in general.

vitamin D2 is not human bioidentical - instead it is the form found in plants and fungi - and is not readily utilised in humans. its probably cheaper to produce - but, aside from that, its hard to see the rational sense in supplementing with it.

I would suggest going out into the sunlight and spending about 15 minutes several times a day.

This is still the best source of Vit D. Might not cause the herx, and yet still bring up you Vit D levels.

My last blood test showed me at 58. So, between the sun exposure 2-3 days a week in shorts and taking 1000 of D3 when I don't get sunlight I think I'm doing pretty good.
