A brief history,, I was bitten by a tick around 3 years ago but didnt get treatment as i was told lyme doesnt exist here in Spain. I have been experiencing symptoms mostly neurological for around 6 months now and Im currently taking 200mg of minocicline per day as directed by my llmd and seem to be doing well as many symptoms have improved. However After reading other people treatment regimens I wonder if it is enough,

I am interested to add in buhners core protocol but dont know if this can be taken as well as the antibiotics, I dont see many people doing both, it seems to be either ABX or herbs not both together. Are there any reasons I cant do both at the same time? have people here got experience of using both together with success?

Many of us here take both Herbs and ABX together. Buhner approves of this approach in his first Healing Lyme book.

Mono ABX therapy is seldom successful. You need to address the three forms of Lyme with specific ABX types, as well as go after co-infections with different classes of meds and more herbs.

Some folks get well with ABX alone, some on Herbs alone. In 2012 or so I started adding in some Buhner herbs, and over time weaned off ABX but soon relapsed. I'm pulsing a good ABX combo right now 2 weeks ON and 3 weeks OFF, but holding my herbal regimen steady.

Right now I'm 90 to 95% on a good day, but may need some level of pulsing ABX for the rest of my days.

Spanish - as tickbite mentioned - taking one antibiotic at a time to treat isn't recommended. (mono therapy)

But, it's good you are interested in adding herbals to your meds.

Many - probably most people do take some herbals even if they're on antibiotics.

Buhner's herbs are very popular with the members here.

Like others said, yes ABX and Buhner herbals can be used together.

It is important when using herbals to always check for side effects and contradictions for each herb.

We all are different and possibly take Meds for other illnesses or for example someone may have a condition like high blood pressure.

So you need to do your own research and take your medical history into consideration.

Buhner's 2nd edition"Healing Lyme" book he does have a section on the effects and contradictions of each herbal he recommends.

Spanish I am on Ceftin and I take LBcore (herbal supplement based on Buhner's recommended herbs. And I'm pulsing Tindamax 2 days a week ( Sapi's research for highly effective kill rates of spirochetes and L forms .

Dr Horowitz's protocol uses LBcore with antibiotics

Thanks for all the replies, I have an appointment with my LLMD in february and ill raise my concerns, in fairness though he did say he just wanted to start me on minocycline first for 3 months to see how i responded then we would review it.

Judging by the responses i think ill also get on the core herbs asap as it seems like it can only help.

just watch out for Astragalus. It packs a whollop with chronic lyme and is not recommended

So I shouldnt take Astragalus?? Or just be careful with it? Oh im confused

If you were bitten by a tick three years ago you most likely have chronic lyme, so just be real careful with it and go super slow ramping up. I stayed away from it for many years based on Buhner advising against using it for chronic lyme due to possibly causing a major herx.

A couple years ago I tried it as a "challenge" to see if I still had a significant Bb infection, or if my sx were from Bart or another Co. I had no reaction and then stayed at 1000 mg per day as a preventative measure against future bites. When I did get another tick bite last Easter Sunday, I upped the dose to 3000 mg per day for 30 days to be safe.

Start with a tincture for better low dosage control.

Better to start with Japanese Knotweed first, then add Cat's Claw in my opinion.

Buhner says Astragalus can cause an autoimmune type reaction with chronic Lyme.
Here's an excerpt:
"If you are not currently sick, you can certainly take astragalus. The reason for not recommending it is that astragalus raises the parts of the immune system that are overactivated in chronic lyme.
Those parts of the immune system are highly effective against lyme early on and help prevent or reduce the disease but if they are low to begin with and you are infected the infection can spread more easily. After awhile the immune system does ratchet up those parts to attack the lyme bacteria but by then the spirochete has altered itself and is no longer very affected by them, those parts of the immune system then begin to cause some of the lyme symptoms people have making the disease a kind of autoimmune problem. "
