Hi guys.

Can Lyme cause temporomandibular joint dysfunction? If so, can it give crunch and clicks when you open your mouth? I'm afraid that is synonymous with loss of cartilage in that area ....

What other reasons can make lyme crunch the jaw?

I got my clicks, pain and popping in my knees, elbows and neck. Once in awhile in my ankles and wrist.

I do not doubt for one minute that lyme can affect all the other joints including the jaw.

I used ice and ibuprofen for mine.

I had clicking in my jaw. That has stopped. Most recently, my left shoulder area is clicking and grinding. I agree with PeteZa. No area is exempt from these menaces.

Most lymies have stiff necks, or did at one time. Tight neck muscles can pull on your jaw muscles increasing the joint tension. It doesn't necessarily mean cartilage loss. Usually noises in joints is from uneven and/or too much muscle tension around the joint.

There are some you tube videos on how to loosen up jaw muscles. Some chiropractors do this as well.

I had tightness in my jaw that felt like I couldn't open my mouth all the way and sometimes would feel odd when chewing. I suspect bartonella, as bart causes bilateral stiffness in my fingers, toes, wrists, ankles and now elbows. I almost always have the Bart foot pain when I have the joint stiffness.

The symptoms come and go for me. After having them for months on end, they went away for weeks and then reappeared about 2 weeks ago.

Treating Lyme and Bartonella should make it go away.
