Swollen tender throat/thyroid?

Hi all

Anyone had this symptom? It has gotten a lot worse in the last few months for me.

In addition I tested for low thyroid recently.

Did you test antibodies TG and TPO for hashimoto? They elevate before hashimoto shows effected hormone level.

Hashimoto is more than the regular low thyroid and has elevated antibodies, reg low thyroid does not.

Hashi is inflammatory- the active antibodies do that and can be triggered with these infections.

I felt like I had a sore throat, but it wasn't like a sore throat of a cold or flu. It was different and hard to explain.

As for my tenderness in and around my throat, that was my lymph nodes. They were swollen.

I gargled with warm salt water for the interior of my throat and I don't know if it helped or not because at the same time I started Red Root for the lymph nodes. I also did lymph massage by Heather that is on You Tube.

Probably a combination of all is what gave me relief.

So this might be an option for you also.

What tests were done?

As Astroman mentioned there are antibodies you can test for.

You can post your test results here.
You should have TSH, FT3 and FT4 done.

I am hypothyroid and take Naturethroid. It started well before lyme, but lyme has played with that some. I had swollen glands and started on red root which helped me. Red root, I believe, supports the lymphatic system.

I have red root at home so I'll take it. The area near the collarbone is sooo tender argh.

Also my Free T4 was 18.2 and TSH was 5.46.

Not sure what those mean but the TSH seems to be above the range.

Can you post the ranges for both?

TSH above the range is an indication that you are hypothyroid.

The FT3 is an important test.

Ok so I emailed my doctor and the most recent test in January was within normal range.

The one I referenced earlier was in December.

The fact that you had one in December with a high TSH does warrant some checking into.

If I were you, I'd repeat testing in another month or so...but this time ask for TSH, FT3, FT4 and the antibodies that Astroman suggested: TG and TPO.
