Does Lyme always cause immune deficiency?

Can you have Lyme, suffer with symptoms like Dementia and congnitive problems, fatigue and not have immune deficiency?

All the things i've read so far say that if you don't have immune deficiency, you don't actually have Lyme.

I've had a ton of blood tests, none positive. I have symptoms that often are misdiagnosed for other things when they are Lyme. But my blood work shows i don't have immune deficiency and the only way i could really tell i have Lyme is getting a blood smear checked, where they found live spirochetes.

Again, what do the LLMD say about these type of people?

greatguy - I don't know what tests you've had to show that you don't have a suppressed immune function.

I don't think the Doctors get caught up in whether or not you have immune dysfunction.
If you have symptoms, history, and they clinically diagnose you with lyme...then they treat.
Often a test will have something significant - maybe not a full positive...but a lyme 'specific' band to back up the clinical diagnosis.

A blood smear isn't the only test that will show you have lyme.
This must not be a LLMD telling you this?

I can't remember - did you have an Igenex WB done?

They have two new tests now - They appear to be similar to the Armin Labs tests.

Not all of us with lyme do have low CD 57. I would think there are other immune markers that could be done in addition to that one.

Ive not had any immunity tests done...so this will bump for others who can help you with that.

How are we defining immune deficiency? That's an important question.

But a general answer to your question is no. You don't "have to have" an immune deficiency to have lyme.

Matter of fact, the reason why some people herx really bad is because their immune system is actually kicking some serious butt and putting on a large response (thus the inflammation), the opposite of "deficient".
