EASIER WAY??

Hi, I’ve often tried to figure out the same kinds of things.

There are online interaction checkers, which allow you to type in all meds & check them for interactions. I did find one that also let you put in supplements as well. It also added on if there were any food interactions as well .

I was disappointed that the particular herbal supplement I was trying to cross check with my meds wasn’t one that they had in their lists of info. I only tried it for that ont specific herb though, maybe they do have some of the other more common herbs & supplements , I don’t know.

It’s worth a try!

I also always ask both my llmd & my Nd about any potential interactions. I carry a current written list to all appointments, because I often forget a few things on my list.

Other than that, if you list all items in your regimen , perhaps some of the more experienced members on here could let you know if anything jumps out at them.

Trying to determine the many POSSIBLE interactions is likely going to be difficult, if you have a bunch of each. I don't think even pharmaceutical companies, with their budget of billions of dollars, test multiple interactions. They might test a few, since they are now combining multiple medications into a single pill, but I believe the testing is quite limited in scope. Again, that's just medications - not herbs and/or supplements.

I'd suggest a different approach by trying to determine if you really need to be on all the various medications, herbs, and supplements.

Obviously, don't make any changes (especially to medications), without first discussing with your qualified healthcare providers. But, my experience has been that many (certainly not all) Integrative/Functional/Lyme-Literate Doctors will just put people on a long list of supplements without good evidence they are needed and/or are effective. They can cherry-pick data for supplements, like they do when recommending diets.

I'd especially be wary of those providers who also sell supplements. A couple of my providers purposely don't sell supplements, because they don't want the conflict of interest, whether real or perceived.

My apologies for not having a helpful answer to your question. And, it's not my intent to sound negative about medications, herbs, and supplements. There's no doubt that some of those have been helpful for me, in certain situations. They've also helped many here, as the comments show. But, sometimes we get on them and there's no clearly-defined path to get off of them.
