abx and herx

Anyone know if we will always herx when we take abx. I treated for 3+ years felt good for 2 years. Taken 2nd dose of bactrim and the herx is back. Does this mean lyme is active again? Or am I always going to herx on abx? Anyone been through this?

Not everyone herxs.

Bactrim can be pretty strong but helpful. I herxed on it also.

If the herxing is too strong I would step up your detoxing and also consider lowering the dose of Bactrim for a few days until your body can detox a bit.

I would think if you are having a herx then you still have bacteria that you just killed off.

Herxing is due to the release of toxins by dying bacteria. So, if you are herxing, then it's because you are killing bacteria. Is it the Lyme bacteria? Possibly, although I've seen people treating Bartonella with Bactrim as well, and they have herxed on it as well.

No, you will not always herx, only if the bacteria are in too large of a number for your own immune system to keep in check. Our goal is to get to that point where our immune system can keep everything under control once again.
