Under the kitchen sink is a common moldy area often ignored, kinda of out of site, out of mind. And you stand near it every day.
This applies to the older "alone" (pre 2000's) style sprayer that slips into the sink "surround". Many of them leak at the hose fitting and even if they dont, the design allows water to drip down the handle, down the hose, and rots the wood under the sink.
I did home inspections a while before the bubble burst, I could not believe how many leaked and had mold/rotting wood under the sink. Do people not look under there? Its usually a catch all for dish cleaning stuff and sometimes a trask can.
The fitting has a replaceable o-ring. But still keep a dish pan underneath with desiccant or kitty litter in there, because water from these sprayers just ends up there. Most bottoms of the spray hoses are black and crusty at the lowest part of the loop, a combination of calcium and mold.
****Newer styles incorporated into the faucet "spicket" dont have this leaking/ mold issue***- but you just replace these new ones more often cause they usually dont last LOL.
