Mepron with Ceftin (or Omnicef)?? Anyone?

Ive been prescribed Ceftin and Bactrim to take with the Mepron.

On the package insert for the Mepron - Ceftin is listed as one of the medications that could interact with it. (Along with Rifampin, Rifabutin, Tetracycline and a few more)


Doesn't say how...


What do you think about this?

I did put Mepron and Ceftin in the Drug Interaction checker and nothing came up.

Just wondering if this is a mistake - and I shouldn't have been prescribed this ...should I be concerned?

Mepron is fine with any cephalosporins as far as I know. Dr. J usually does Ceftin or Omnicef as his first choice for one of the abx you pair with your babesia med (e.g. mepron, malarone)

okay - I went over some protocols that other members here have taken (I made note of them)
and I do see others' have taken Mepron or Malarone with Omnicef or Ceftin.

So, I guess it's okay.

Thanks Rikky - I wonder why Cephalosporins (sp?) are listed on the Mepron insert - as one of the meds that could interact with it.

Oh well - if dr j says it’s fine - then it must be yeah

You got me looking up all the drugs Mepron could interact with. Didn't see Ceftin. But I saw Bacrim and Septra listed under the minor interaction list. And Rifampin and Rifabutin under the moderate. I'll definitely be asking my dr about this tomorrow.

The interaction checker I use didn’t show Mepron and Ceftin being a problem either -

You should be fine. I was on rocephin (cephalosporin) and malarone at the same time.
