Rifampin Along with Diflucan and Nystatin - Liver??

I had a conversation with my doctor about the possibility of yeast issues and she wants me to take Rifampin and Zithromax along with Nystatin twice a day and diflucan twice a week.

I'm pretty sure that you aren't supposed to take milk thistle with rifampian and I know all these things are pretty rough on your liver.

I have had elevated liver enzymes (slight) every time I get my blood tests done, so this is very concerning to me.

Has anyone else taken all these things? Or have any comments?

I already feel like crap due to die off from the lauricidin and nystatin, I cant imagine dealing with bart herx's too. But, if it gets me better I'm up for anything, just not permanent damage.

So, your liver function tests aren't climbing...they are staying slightly elevated?

If that's the case...should be okay.

I think as long as you keep testing after you've added in the Diflucan twice weekly...that would catch any effect that the Diflucan is having.

Keep an eye on it.

Well, let me restate that, without the Milk Thistle my liver enzymes were pretty high. With the Milk Thistle they stayed just slightly elevated.

From what I have read, Milk Thistle cant be taken with Rifampin.

I guess I could rely on Dandelion tea..?

I switched from Milk Thistle to Pekana apo-hepat when my liver enzymes climbed at one point.
So far, so good.

It's homeopathic...and I took it with Rifampin per my LLND.

Maybe ask your LLMD about it?

FYI - I put MT in the drug interaction checker I use with Rifampin and it didn't show an interaction.

ok so maybe I'm wrong.. that makes me feel better! And Girlie, I tried to find it online but it looks like you have to get it through a doctor. I'll ask her about it.

My LLMD told me to take the milk thistle seed extract (silymarin) while being on Rifampin.

It probably slightly decreases the Rifampin's effectiveness but I'm willing to accept that tradeoff for the added hepatoprotective benefit.
