LLMD in Toronto? Ontario? Canada? Willing to travel.

This is probably an annoyingly common post but I figured I'd give it a shot after spending endless hours on Google, eventually coming up with nothing.

I just received my Igenex results back and went over them with my GP.. She's fantastic and very open-minded but I obviously would like to go over said results with a LLMD. I did test positive on both the Western Blot IgM and ImmunoBlot IgM but tested negative on the IgG tests. Not entirely sure what that means and would really like to get the ball rolling as I have been sick for almost two years with my life having been turned entirely upside down...

Any help would be so greatly appreciated!

I think the ones I have listed are in Richmond Hill, Ottawa, and Uxebridge.

I also have a LLMD listed that used to practice in Toronto...but I was told he's not seeing lyme patients anymore...but it may be worth a call to his office.

I am also lucky to have a supportive GP. She said (after I had been treating for over 3 years) she thought it was a good idea when I said I was going to see the LLMD (also an infectious disease Dr.) in the U.S.

She gave me lab reqs for liver/kidney function tests and Hematology throughout my treatment.

Thanks to all for the quick replies! I didn't anticipate getting any replies that quickly - or at all.

I did see that there is an LLND in Uxbridge. Initially, I was a little hesitant of LLND's as I have gone to a ND before for unrelated things and wasn't completely sold. Now seeing all of the recommendations.. that seems to be a popular route. I was unsure that they would prescribe antibiotics but I'm glad that at least some of them do!

Do you prefer LLMD to LLND? I'm assuming both have pros and cons.

sickofbeingsick - Yeah, I know I'm definitely fortunate to have an MD who is super supportive. I'm on my second GP since becoming sick though.. Been to quite a few specialists to rule other things out such as MS/Lupus/Inner Ear Disorders. Didn't test positive for Lyme on the ELISA so when I asked her if I should try Igenex after ruling other issues out, she didn't hesitate at all. Only problem now is that wasn't quite sure how to interpret the results.

LLND ‘S in Ontario can’t prescribe antibiotics - but in BC they can.

I prefer a LLMD or LLND that prescribed antibiotics.

Ohhh, right you did say that in BC they can. I would probably prefer LLMD.. I'm just scared of the costs that will incur with going to the US. I'm hoping OHIP will cover costs of treatment despite not testing positive on the ELISA. I've definitely been reading too many horror stories. :S

If you send me an email I can give you costs incurred going to BC vs going to the LLMD in the US that I go to now.
Both will involve travelling, but they both also do some phone appts.

Also, I forgot to ask a huge question! Can GP's treat Lyme? I've read that in Ontario that they could possibly lose their license for treating Lyme with multiple rounds of antibiotics if you did not test positive on the ELISA test. My GP has suggested treating me. Should I start treatment with her in the meantime before I'm able to connect with an LLMD/LLND? She has been amazing and I would never want her to jeopardize anything in order to treat me.

She could probably treat you for a few weeks - but with a chronic infection that really won’t help you.

And.. I doubt she’d be knowledgeable to treat with correct dosage and combinations of abx.

I haven’t checked my forum emails yet this morning - but will get to them a little later - gotta do my exercise and epsom bath now.
